Great apartments that are relatively new!

Pricy but great
Pros: Spacious, tons of storage. I cook a lot and the kitchen storage is great (although I wish I had gas burners instead of electric). The gym is very nice for an apartment complex, including a squat rack. Love the pool. Proximity to downtown restaurants and American Tobacco Campus.
Cons: Price. Construction will be starting soon (nobody knows exactly when) on the ATC campus extension right across the street, so I don’t know how disruptive that will be. Fireworks after every Bulls game are fun to watch a few times, but pretty loud and sometimes at 10pm at night.

It's been pretty good living at Cortland. The apartment has good amenities and maintains cleanliness throughout. One area of improvement would be to have more community events to justify the high cost of living.

Cortland Bull City - evaluate other options
This is a good to great apartment building. It is pricy, but comes with reliable amenities: pool, gym, business center, secured parking. The community has a good mix of people and my floor (6th floor) is very quiet. Building repairs are addressed promptly.
In hindsight, however, I do not think this place warrants the nearly $1700 in rent. It is walkable to downtown, but has very little surrounding it (except for the Tobacco District). They recently repainted walls and cleaned carpets recently, which is great because the building was beginning to look run down. I would recommend it for its full-service features, but think that this type of value can also be attained in other places. Liberty Warehouse and Fosters on the Park in downtown are similarly priced and have a much better location.

Review
I like Cortland. It's well worth it to me to be downtown/walking distance to the American Tobacco Campus, Bars, and Restaurants. It's also a convenient drive to the Law School (just down Chapel Hill Street; no need to take the highway or anything). I don't really use the building amenities (no time to be at the pool/gym/club room frequently) but they are all in the building and are nicely maintained. The quality of the building itself is low—thin walls, cheap windows, doors, and cabinets, etc. But that seems to be the case with every large apartment complex being built in North Carolina. Not really any way around it.

Great Apt in downtown Durham
Brand new apartment with great location, easy access to almost anywhere in downtown. The floorplan to spacious, pet friendly, and thoughtfully designed.

A comfortable apartment
1. The neighborhood is relatively quiet, and it is very convenient because it is near downtown and it is near the Durham bus station.
2. The utilities are good. I use the club room and meeting room a lot.
3. The community is really nice. There are a lot of activities here.
4. The management is great. If you have any questions, they will help you immediately. The leasing office is open every day.
