Great apartment - loud neighborhood

Love this apartment. It's great for young professionals (mostly not undergrads). However, utilities are expensive and apartments do not come with washer/dryers. The gym is pretty good, but small. Staff are super friendly. The main issue is ungated parking lots and the surrounding apartment complexes house lots of undergrads, so it can get pretty noisy at times (especially on game days).

McKenna Estates is Pretty Good, All Things Considered.

Pros:
Our complex is well-maintained and reasonably quiet.
Despite being a 2 minute walk from Autzen Stadium, we aren't too inconvenienced by noise or crowds.
Management is responsive and very kind/easy to work with.
Air conditioning unit and wall heaters work fairly well (though costly). Everything in the unit works reasonably well.
Plank floors and large, sunny window are nice.
Option to have fireplace is nice, but we don't pay for the gas, so it sits inutile.
Mold seems to be minimal here.
Locked bike cage to prevent theft (though it was broken into just this morning).
15 minute drive/walk to UO was what sold us on this unit, I save a lot of money biking instead of driving to the school most months of the year.

Cons:

Not a single utility included with the high rent.
No overhead lighting other than sterile, fluorescent lighting in kitchen, so the lighting is terrible in every room and the closet.
Oregonians apparently don't believe in ceiling fans.
Pet rent is a racquet and abomination.
Parking doesn't cost extra, but only one car can park in the complex lot; the person has to walk across the complex to the overflow lot, which is profoundly inconvenient/annoying, especially carrying anything like groceries or books.
Apartments are small and a bit outdated.
Absolutely no storage other than 1 small bedroom closet, which is nowhere near enough storage for a couple. Consequently, we spend yet MORE money on a storage unit and shelving.
Hook-up for wash-dryer available, but appliances not supplied.
Further, side-by-side washer/dryer we were instructed to get, prevents the bathroom door from closing. We had to take it off the hinges and install a barn door for privacy (obviously NOT ideal)
The worst thing about it is the astronomical price we pay to have a livable unit. However, having come here from California it's more than we had before for less money per month.

Reasonably priced quiet complex

McKenna Estates is a well-run, well-maintained complex with fantastic management. The rent is incredibly reasonable for the square footage and amenities ($1600 for 2bed/2bath 1250sqft apartment) and covered parking is included. The leasing office manager is incredibly kind and helpful, and maintenance requests are answered quickly. Pets are allowed! Would highly recommend this complex, and plan to live here for all 3 years of law school.

Recommend

The apartment itself is great. It has a great kitchen and living room space and free parking.

Here is how pricing works at McKenna.

There are a few types of units: 1 BR with carpeting, 1 BR with wood floors, and two types of 2 BR with and without carpeting. The carpeted units are all $50 to $100 cheaper than the wood-floor counterpart units. The two bedrooms, are only about $50 - $100 more expensive than the one bedrooms. So if you have a roommate, this is a great deal.

Downside - There is a bus right outside the apartment complex that goes directly to campus. It runs about every half hour, and the commute is very short. However, the drop-ff is by McKenzie which is on the opposite side of campus as the law school, so the walk from the bus stop to the law school is about 10 to 15 mins (down hill though). To bus to campus only takes about 12 mins.

I wish my unit had a bigger closet.

Typically, McKenna has some of the best rental rates. Sq footage is about 850 sq feet for a 1 BR.

Rent goes up about 10% a year. Note about the rent I posted, I had to guess what rent is because I am paying $1466, but that's because I am graduating in December so I had to switch to a month to month lease. I think it would be about $100 less otherwise.

I love my apartment.

I love our place, I can bike to school, there are washer dryer hookups which was a must for me, I never have trouble finding parking, and it's a quiet place to do my schoolwork. The interior is a bit outdated but has everything we needed to be comfortable.
