Aspen Glen Review
Aspen Glen is conveniently located in Hamden, a lot of space for the price, and allows pets! It's also family-friendly and relatively quiet which is great for studying.

Safe, Clean, Well Maintained Community
I've lived at the Aspen Glen apartments since July 1, 2022. It's a beautiful community, very green, pet friendly and people friendly. There are many students living here, but also a good mix of families and individuals too. I would recommend it as a great place for a QU student as it's just a 10-minutes drive from the Mt. Carmel campus and about a 20-minutes drive from the North Haven Campus. Regarding the apartments, they are well maintained, rooms are spacious, great amenities (microwave, dishwasher, washer/dryer, etc.) Maintenance also responds very timely to service requests. A couple not so good things are that the equipment at the gym facility needs upgrading and the mechanical gate that lowers after hours to prevent entry into the area doesn't always respond to the magnetized sticker that's supposed to open the gate. When that happens, you may need to exit the car and punch-in a code at a machine near the gate to get it to open.

Our experience
The apartment is very nice. It is quite large, has an in-unit washer/dryer and resident-controlled heat/ac. The management is not the most responsive, however when our heater broke this winter, emergency maintenance quickly responded and fixed the issue.

Fine place to live
The rent was increased approximately a month after I signed so my monthly rent is not representative of the current rent. There is a small gym with a few machines and some free weights. The machines are a bit rusty and squeaky but work well and the free weights are fine. The apartment is well insulated. The kitchen is large with lots of storage. We've had no major problems and the office is responsive within a few days, although walking into the office is best way have something done.

Cozy
This is a mixed community with senior apartments, college kids, and families with kids. It gives you a cozy community vibe compared to some of the other apartment complexes. There is an outdoor pool and gym at the main office. There is also a little dog park if you are a dog owner. Uncovered Parking is free, however you can also pay ~$30/month for an assigned covered parking spot. It is walking close to the farmington canal trail and takes me 12 mins to drive to the North Haven Campus. There is rarely annoying traffic like what you'd get staying at some of the other highly populated apartment complexes. They respond pretty quickly to maintenance requests. High turnover in the leasing office so it was a bit of a pain just signing the lease, but otherwise I have happily stayed here.

Safest/most affordable place to be in Hamden **if living with someone else
Aspen Glen was the perfect apartment complex for me and my roommate because it has TWO bathrooms, in unit Laundry, a gated community (I was concerned about safety living near New Haven) with plenty of off-street parking (it’s a parking lot…if willing to splurge 30$ extra you could even get a little car covered space reserved for the snowy months so you don’t need to clean off the car), pets are allowed (I have a cat and only spent 250$ as a one time payment so NO PET RENT! Amazing!) …also has a swimming pool (with Covid only the tenants were allowed so haven’t really used it), a gym, tennis court, and dog park. Also, central AC and heat, balcony, beautiful kitchen, it’s honestly amazing (except the central AC can really rack up the electric bill so be careful….) everything is honestly super affordable if splitting it with a roommate. Right now, I’m paying 1,055$ and my roommate is paying 900$ because I asked for the master bedroom. And then we split the bills in half which is only around 75$ after splitting it, so maybe 150-200$ a month you can expect in utilities + internet.

Tiny Town Escape
This apartment is up in Simsbury, a cute small town with plenty of small businesses. It is only 15 minutes from West Hartford which is full of restaurants, shops, and other activities. There are also hiking trails and outdoors activities near by. Although this is far from campus, it's a beautiful apartment with a pool, tennis court, access to bike/running trail, outdoor grills/fire pit, on site gym, and optional garages.
The only "complaint" is the lack of maintenance. Maintenance workers live on site and are prompt to respond if there is an issue, but there are some issues they leave unresolved. Upon moving in there were a few issues such as sticky door or loose hinges and maintenance never came to fix these. They vacuum each building once a week and they come to change air filters and fire alarms regularly.
Overall it is a great find.

Cozy home
Washer and dryer in unit! This was the one thing I wouldn't compromise on. Also, I love that I'm only a 10-15 minute drive to the North Haven campus and I never deal with traffic. I have quick access to the farmington canal trail to bike, walk, or rollerblade and am only a 5 minite drive from Sleeping Giant State Park to go on some awesome hikes. The apartment has lots of natural light and a balcony I can relax on. I enjoy coming home and feel safe and cozy here. This apartment complex has about 14 buildings but is surprisingly quiet and you don't feel like you are on top of people. They have lighted sidewalks and lots of trees so you feel like you live in a cute little neighborhood not a jam packed apartment complex. They have a pool, tennis court, and indoor gym. They also offer covered parking for $30/month. Pet friendly with a little dog park too. Maintenance has been quick with response rates. I really have no complaints other than it takes a minute for the hot water to make its way through the pipes and then is super hot once it gets through.

Very happy with Aspen Glen
I have had a very enjoyable experience while renting at Aspen Glen. The staff is very nice, maintenance is usually prompt with responding although it may take a day or two sometimes. The apartments have all the amenities I would deem necessary to live comfortably. I live in an older unit that will be renovated once my roommate and I leave, but even so I don't find the apartment to be in poor shape. There is a pool, a gym, a large enough property to walk around when it's nice out. There is a dog park for those with pets. Overall, would recommend.
