budget friendly

Not the nicest apartment around, but nice enough and works on a resident salary if you don't want roommates. Pros: spacious floor plans, front desk staff present 24/7 to receive packages/help with issues, undergrads aren't allowed to live here so it's generally pretty quiet, the plaza downstairs has dry cleaning and a great convenience store you can get most necessities at, also a very short (~8 minute) walk to the hospital/metro and close to the monuments as well. Cons: Temp is controlled by you but is only heating or cooling, which is fairly common in DC proper. For example heat will be on during the winter and in the spring management decides when to switch over to AC which in my opinion is often after a week or 2 of being uncomfortably warm. There is the occasional pest (again unfortunately common in DC) but if you keep clean and request extermination at regular intervals it's not a big issue.

You pay for what you get

My apartment has ample space, a spectacular view, most utilities included, a decent gym, 8 to 10 minute walk to the hospital and mfa, and easy escape from dc into Virginia. The catch is that I spend 50%+ of my salary on rent.

Affordable

Good except the leasing office/front desk/mail can be rude and that’s been my biggest issue here. Location is very convenient to metro/gwu so saves time to commute since it’s walkable and the national mall is within walking distance as well. Property is a little old depending on which building you’re in and may have lead paint exposure but inside layout is very spacious for 2b2b layouts. Utilities included but you have to pay for wifi and laundry. The AC is controlled by the building so it switches to heat in October which can get extremely hot. Easy process to apply (a little old school). Make sure to also read your lease. Affordable compared to others in the area.

It's cheap(er) for a reason!

I cannot wait to move out. Kelly, the leasing manager is AWFUL and could not care less about issues. They don't care about tenants whatsoever. Scary neighbors and cops have been called several times by myself and others (and I've only been living here for 5 months). It costs way too much for how many maintenance problems we have. I've been here half a year and my apartment STILL smells like marijuana and cigarettes the way it did when I moved in (smell is in the curtains and they don't care). Appliances are so gross and we've had many issues with the oven, dishwasher, and sink already. Hallways smell awful and give dingy motel vibes. The buzz-in system doesn't work and they don't care to fix it. One of the 3 elevators doesn't even stop on my floor and they don't care to fix it. They don't listen when we ask for our rent lowered or if we can move into another building (safety concerns with scary neighbors). Not safe for women, my roommate (21) got verbally threatened by a huge man in the lobby and the building did nothing even when police came. And they have the audacity to charge 250 for parking on top of all of that. THE AC BARELY WORKS AT ALL BTW. Thermostats do not work -- heat is just very hot and AC does not turn on. I COULD GO ON, DO NOT LIVE HERE.

Close to campus and great value!

Good apartment complex overall with lots of fellow classmates living here! Being 4 blocks from campus is the biggest benefit. Pricing is not cheap, but for the location I do think you are going to be hard pressed to find an overall better deal

Decent for students if you don't mind some pests

Overall I like that it Columbia Plaza Apartment is so close to GW (a five minute walk to ross hall), it covers all utilities (water, gas, electricity) , and has a spacious floor plan with a patio. However the building has pest issues. It is also an older building so if you're looking for a more modern and newer apartment, think somewhere else.

Columbia Plaza

Columbia Plaza is good for living in Foggy Bottom. It's very close to school and GW Hospital which is extremely convenient. My biggest complaint is roach problems.

Lots of pretty row homes, walking distance to many restaurants, grocery stores, and my school. Lots of trees and a dog park near-by. Overall, very pretty and scenic to walk through, and also close to other neighborhoods and essential stores.
I like living in Foggy, it's easy to get to school but also is close to Georgetown, which is fun for food and shopping. The northern part of Foggy (near GW) is about 10 minute walk to Dupont too, which is great.
Short walk to Georgetown, West End, and Dupont Circle. Many restaurants nearby and close to metro so you can get to anywhere in the city conveniently.
Nice to be so close to school. Short walk from the mall and other tourist destinations. Bar/restaurant/night life scene leaves a lot to be desired.
It is really close to campus so a lot of GW folks live here! You can reach a lot of places on public transit.
Edge of Foggy Bottom bordering Georgetown - very safe and peaceful!
I personally enjoy the quietness of the neighborhood and its location within a close walking distance of campus, Georgetown, the water, and convenience/grocery stores. The neighborhood is also very safe, I am a woman in my early 20's and I have never felt unsafe walking home late at night near my apartment.
Foggy Bottom is a great place to live given the proximity to the law school. It's also within walking distance of Georgetown and Dupont Circle which are fun places to go out with friends and classmates. It's also has lots of bike racks for the Capital Bikeshare nearby, and the Foggy Bottom metro stop is a few blocks up the street.
