Affordable and Close to Campus

These apartments are a great affordable option and they very close to campus and the bus stop. The building is very old and there are things to be expected with old buildings (gas heat, poor insulation, thin walls), but the management team is very responsive to problems and needed maintenance, and resolves them quickly. There are some things that are very nice about them too, like huge windows so lots of natural light, a laundry room in the apartment (in most units - I think there is one floorplan that doesn't have it), locked hallways for security, and the pool is also nice. Don't expect anything amazing out of these apartments because of their age, but it is a great option for affordability and proximity.

Affordable and great location

It is just a 5 minute bus ride from campus. It is super affordable. The management is extremely helpful and friendly as well. The apartment itself is old and run down but it has never been an issue for me. I recommend it completely.

Best Durham Budget Housing

I have lived in two separate apartments within this complex. First I lived in the smallest model they have. It wasn't beautiful and was very small, but it only cost me $615 a month which was the cheapest I've heard of in the area. I now live in a nicer/larger 1 bedroom, and really enjoy it.

Best Option for Cheap Housing

I live in a 415 square foot apartment and pay $615 a month. It is close to Duke's campus, and you get free access to a gym and pool. The housing is mediocre, but the management has really improved and this is a great place to stay for anyone looking to minimize their rent expense.

Old Apartment but close to Duke

The apartments are old and creaky but the rent is good. Neighbors can be loud and don't expect much since rent is low. Close to bus stops to campus and city bus, which is nice. Office is helpful and maintenance is quick.

Good value!

I was a Fuqua MQM student and this place is a really good value. I can take a bus from the nearest stop and it takes about less than 10 minutes to campus. It is very convenient to shop groceries since they have a grocery shop within walking distance. My neighbor had a smoking problem so I told the maintenance office and they handled it very well and quick. But don't expect a super fancy apartment like the ones near Fuqua. It is far from the place where most Fuqua students live, so it's difficult to socialize.

Good overall

Our apartment is a pretty good size; the bedrooms aren't very large but it has a large kitchen and and in-unit washer/dryer. Other than the occasional cockroach we haven't had any pest problems. There are multiple bus stops within a two or three block radius in any direction. You can tell it's an old building because some of the paint is chipping and it's heated by radiators, but for the price the apartments are great.

Getting around Duke Central Campus

Duke Central Campus Reviews

4 reviews
Safe and quite neighborhood. Constant patrol by Duke police. close to university gym and trail. Whole foods, main street and 9th street are steps away.
There have been a couple of crimes reported on and around Swift Avenue in the last couple of months. I have ever unsafe but it needs to be kept in mind that incidents do happen and people should be aware of how to keep themselves safe. No incidents have happened in the 300 Swift complex.
Very safe, there are duke police and security guards around entry points to the building
Several security incidents nearby including sexual assault. Homeless frequently on the street are sometimes aggressive.
