general

The experience was average. By coming to this building one should not have big expectations as it is an old building without any renovations.
I chose this place only for its location.

Good value for money

This building is family-owned and doesn't go much beyond the basics, but it's pretty good value for money. Everything is furnished, and they have both studios and 1 bedroom apartments. Lease terms are generally flexible after you stay there a fixed min amount (e.g. you don't need to sign an additional year, after staying there a year), so it's convenient. One note of caution for those accustomed to the high-life: this building is very old, so there's no a/c (you need to rent or buy your own window unit for an additional cost/month) and heat comes through the radiator. Also, for those that like complete peace and quiet, you may be disappointed. This building is located at state and division where it gets pretty noise friday and saturday nights until the bars close. So wear ear-plugs are just get used to it (I know I did). Besides these two things, everything else is great. Staff is friendly. Overall, if you're not hi-main, this could be the place for you.

Gold Coast Reviews

45 reviews
The Gold Coast experience is a bit like two sides of a coin depending on your exact location. There's the supposedly infamous Viagra Triangle, but really, it's just all a bunch of ostentatiously wealthy people who literally mill around and block the entirety of the sidewalks all evening long. If you're more of an extrovert who has a lot of superfluous cash, that would probably be a fun place to be? I'm more of an introvert, so I'm happy once I pass Division (with its own subset of bars--again, there's a lot going on), and it's all architecturally stunning mansions and much quieter. In general, the most important thing that I can say about this neighborhood is that I have seen more dogs in this area at all hours than in any other city, period, and that's EASILY the best incentive to live in the Gold Coast.
I've lived in the Gold Coast for 12 years. I love the neighborhood, but it lacks new developments (that are under a million dollars per unit). The Gold Coast is as safe as you're going to get in Chicago. There are so many places and other neighborhoods that are in walking distance. Being on the lakefront, I believe the Gold Coast is the best neighborhood in the city.
It's right in the heart of it all. You're also really close to Navy Pier here, and it's a wonderful spot. Millenium park is a nice short walk away, and there's ALWAYS something going on.
Great neighborhood to live in. There are plenty of restaurants and shopping in the area. It's also close to everything, so it's easy to walk or take public transit.
My experience has been wonderful. I feel safe and there is always something to do, whether I want to go to a nearby festival or try out a trending restaurant or bar.
Gold coast is close to Division street and cool Gold Coast restaurants. We're a quick walk to the lake, shopping, and great places to eat.
Very quaint. Amazing homes and really close to RH Three Arts Café. Also a convenient walk to Old Town and Division St. Bars.
The Gold Coast is a great neighborhood and very safe. It's full of old people, but this building is very young.
