Great location and a good deal

If you like tall ceilings, hardwood flooring, in-unit laundry, and private parking, this is an excellent choice. The location puts you right in the center of downtown Evanston with close proximity to E2 and Kellogg. If you're less picky about aesthetics, in-unit laundry, and an elevator - you can find a better deal.

Fantastic Housing Option

Evanston Galleria is perfect for Kellogg students. In downtown Evanston between a few of the larger apartment buildings, with very spacious and good value units.

Seriously underrated building

The Galleria is fantastic. I have relatively new appliances (stainless steel), granite counters, in-unit washer/dryer, hardwood floors, and very high ceilings. The building itself is a bit rundown (no central heat -- radiators can be really loud, elevators are out of service now and again), which is the only reason I have docked a couple of points. I've also heard that some units have relatively few windows, but that isn't the case for ours.

We have so much space (~1200 sqft!), but one of our favorite things about the apartment is its location. You could not be more central. Everything is close.

Great apartments with character, great location

I fell in love with the character of the building (12 ft ceilings, large windows, crown molding, wood floors) and knew I had to live here. Most units are pretty open floor plan, but corner units have more privacy. The location is really central, right by the El and Target (!!). The units are condos so I think you can get more for your money here.

Sometimes the elevators stop working and building management can be slow to respond, but I would still choose to live here given that. Parking is uncovered, and there are no amenities.

Evanston Galleria - Historic Gem with Good Space, Natural Light, and Tall Ceilings

My partner and I love living in Galleria. Our unit feels spacious (with 2 people + a dog!) because of the tall ceilings (~16 ft.), natural light, and floor plan. We can comfortably host ~10-12 people for dinner or more for a movie. The kitchen is bigger than most other apartments I've seen in Evanston. It's a low-key building with ~30-40 Kellogg students/JVs. Galleria is centrally located to the L train, downtown Evanston, and other residences. (I can walk to any of the other major apartment buildings in 3-7 minutes, and I can walk to the L/Metra Davis stop in 2 mins - good for getting to downtown Chicago!)

There are almost no amenities, which is fine for us. There is an LA Fitness right across the street with reasonable monthly memberships. Some units have "lofted" bedrooms, meaning the wall does not go all the way to the ceiling. Maintenance is hit or miss and depends on your landlord. Since units are individually owned, price, pet permission, and parking can vary by unit.

If you want to live in Galleria, I suggest working with a broker (free to the renter, as the landlord pays the fee) and asking current Kellogg students for advice. Good luck!

Great location, great value

Galleria is a GREAT place to live. There are always plenty of Kellogg students here, and it's very central. There's lots of space and way more space for money than E2/Centrum. Highly recommend.

Management company has been slow to respond to intercom issues, but given its a condo building, you will primarily deal with your apartment's owners. I am just one anecdote but my landlords are great!

Evanston Galleria

The condos are very nice with an art deco feel and a lot of space for the money. We have big windows that provide a lot of natural light. The location is perfect, couldn't ask for better right downtown Evanston and short walk to the hub. We manage groceries on foot with no problem.

The building does not have any amenities, not even a lobby with chairs or anything, so that is a tradeoff you have to be willing to make. That said my floor is pretty much all Kellogg couples so we have a nice social group right in the building.

Our one bedroom unit does not have a bedroom door, nor do the walls for the bedroom go all the way to the ceiling. Normally this would not have been an issue, but it has been challenging to manage two people doing school remotely. Not all units have this issue so recommend you check.

We did have an issue with a lot of water coming through the ceiling in a rain storm. The management did not have a real sense of urgency getting it fixed which was frustrating. Otherwise we had a couple minor plumbing issues that were fixed no problem.

Great Kellogg Spot, Especially for Couples

It's a condo complex so it offers none of the amenities you get at E2 or other big complexes - no gym or pool or rooftop.

But the apartments are big with high ceilings, location is one of the best in Evanston (~17-18 min walk to the hub, close to the L, close to most of the popular Evanston bars and restaurants).

This condo format tends to attracts couples moreso than single folks and because there are no common areas, the social scene is nothing like you get at E2 or whatever. But it's nice to have a more homie feel where you can get outside the Kellogg bubble, and there is definitely still a community. At least 50% of the building is Kellogg students and we get together for dinners, small parties, etc.

Downtown Evanston Reviews

Downtown Evanston has everything you need. E2 is walkable to campus, a Target, and plenty of restaurants, as well as Metra and L stations to get to Chicago. Right across the street is a Subway, a Thai restaurant, and a pizza place, plus there’s a 7-Eleven about a block away, so you’re very close to options if you need food in a pinch.
Perfect for grad school at Northwestern, but otherwise feels a bit suburban without a booming downtown. There are some good food/bar options, but also a handful of abandoned/empty retail locations -- I'm hoping that means new coffee shops/food venues are coming, but it doesn't look like it just yet.
All in all ideal downtown Evanston location. Very convenient for public transportation to Chicago, next door to local favorite Bennison's (love the late night smell of donuts baking), and walking distance to plenty of bars, restaurants, and stores. Once the Target goes up by Sherman Plaza and we have an alternative to Whole Foods close by this will be perfect.
McManus is located right next to Evanston downtown, so everything (restaurants, bars, groceries) is very close by. It's also right next to Northwestern campus (~15-18 minutes to Kellogg Global Hub by foot), which helps quite a lot, esp. in the winter when you'd want to keep your commute as short as possible.
There's plenty to do, but it still takes some effort to get downtown. If you want the quickest ride (metra), then you have to plan ahead and deal with the (infrequent) train schedule. The purple line only runs express during rush hour. Depending on the time of day, your commute can run 20 minutes to an hour and a half.
I would 100% live in Evanston when choosing where to live for my time at Kellogg. There are plenty of amenities of all sorts - everything from two (!) Whole Foods and a Trader Joe's to amazing restaurants (Stained Glass, Boltwood, Found) and quick joints (Freshii, Cozy, Blaze, Cheesie's, etc.) to good bars ranging from dive-y (Bat 17) to more upscale (Bangers & Lace) to great retail, workout options (barre, boxing, and regular gyms), salons, and handy storefronts like hardware, cleaners, etc. Feels like home very quickly!
I live just south of the main downtown area, and it's the perfect intersection of being close to the action but also a bit removed when you want some quiet. I like being a in a more residential pocket, so there is slightly less foot traffic and really nice areas to walk around with a dog, etc.
We're one block from the centre of downtown Evanston. Clearly Evanston isn't going to win any awards for nightlife, culture or dynamism. But, you're not going to get than anywhere near campus. Good news is you're 2 blocks from Davis, which gets you to downtown Chicago in 30 mins.
