It’s ok but could be better

Personally, I love the location Carson Street Commons is. It’s walking distance from good food, nail salon, ice cream, hair salon, and gym. It is also a good distance away from bars so it is very quiet. However, I’ve had some issues with noise. The neighbors can be loud and the walls are thin. Management isn’t the best with dealing with noise complaints.

Cheaper for what you get

I live with my partner, who works from home. For them, an office space was important. For me, lots of sunlight was important. Both are needs are satisfied here. This is a relatively new construction (for Pittsburgh) and was way cheaper than anything similar in other neighborhoods (downtown, Shadyside). Its right next to the stop for the 75 which will drop you off right in front of Presby in Oakland. I dont drive so its a big + that its walking distance from lots of amenities like pharmacies, restaurants, Aldi's, and shops. Even though its far from the busier areas of Southside, our living room facing E Carson St does get more noise than our friend's places in other neighborhoods.

I would recommend Carson Street Commons

I have lived in Carson Street Commons for 2 years now and I would recommend to future students. The apartments are clean and well-maintained. Additionally, the management is great and they come to fix any problems or maintenance requests quickly.

Great option for me

I am living with my partner who works from home so two bedrooms was necessary. We preferred a moderate rent with more space than something closer to school but much smaller or expensive. If you drive, it’s fantastically close. Otherwise, the 75 and 54c stops are super close, they’re just not the most reliable. It’s a nice area near Southside works, Carnegie library, and some good food places. I like that it’s pretty walkable to ALDI and Urban Outfitters.

About South Side

Across the Monongahela River is Pittsburgh's beautiful South Side, which boasts tons of hip bars and dining options. East Carson is said to be Pittsburgh's version of Bourbon Street if that gives you any indication of the vibe in this neighborhood. However, the area is divided into two parts - South...

Parking can be impossible on weekend evenings but it is worth it for the ease of access to Southside bars and restaurants. There can be a bit of noise every now and again, but it is really not a nuisance overall. Parking will likely be your biggest complaint, but you'd find that in pretty much every neighborhood in Pittsburgh.
Close by to gym, grocery store, transit, and bars/restaurants.
I don't think its a very safe area, and the efforts to make it more safe seem to not be working. But, it is affordable and close to the school which is why I plan on staying there. If rent wasn't insanely high I would move to somewhere more safe/secure but its just not in my budget right now.
It’s E Carson street, so it’s expected to have traffic sounds and hooting and cheering on the weekends. Thankfully our bedroom faces away from E Carson and into a parking lot of our apartment building - it’s surprisingly quiet. The walls are also super think here- I’ve never heard my neighbors. While south side can get roudy, you have walking distance to coffee shops, groceries, thrift stores, and bars, if that’s your jam. It’s pretty nice!
I personally love Southside. It's close to Duquesne without the prices of downtown. There are grocery stores and restaurants very close by and its easy to get to campus by walking or on the shuttle. The Southside trail is also great for working out. Southside can get a bad rap but I've never felt unsafe and I love the community.
Hard to get to Oakland via public transport. I live near south side works which is very safe, however a couple of streets up East Carson there is some crime so be aware.
