Shadyside Commons Review

I really love living in Shadyside Commons and will be renewing
my lease for next school year! The amenities (apartment finishes
+ gym + outdoor courtyard) are fantastic and the management is
super responsive to any concerns that you have (they usually
respond within 24 hours). We also have community events/free
food for different holidays. Almost everyone in the building owns
a pet so you would definitely not be alone if you have one. To be
honest, while I love Shadyside Commons, it is quite expensive to
live here.

To be honest, while I love Shadyside Commons, it is quite expensive to live here. My rent is a lot higher than my classmates and I have to pay for parking on top of that ($125 per month for outdoor lot, $175 per month for garage spot). The one sole reason I use to justify this is I am a single woman living alone for the first time. The building is completely secure and I have not felt unsafe in the building or surrounding neighborhood since moving here. Thus the price is worth peace of mind for me. Another con would be that the walls are pretty thin. It's usually not a problem and I rarely hear my neighbors but when they decide to entertain, it can get quite loud. I would definitely recommend the building for anyone who is looking for a nice apartment and isn't afraid of sticker shock! :)

A cozy apartment in shadyside

The management office is very friendly, welcoming and helpful. I love the overall atmosphere of the apartment. One and only concern is the footsteps of the upper floor sometimes echoes downstairs (I live on the second floor and the building itself is three stories). This could be because of a nice wood floor or just the shoes of that the person living upstairs is wearing) so if you are sensitive to sound, I recommend checking carefully beforehand.

But overall, I love the apartment including the nice occasional party for the residents.

As someone who does not own a car, accessibility was extremely important to me. I'm within a 7 minute walk of three bus lines that will get me to school in 20 minutes less, and just as close to bus lines that take me to CHP and St. Margaret's. I'm walking distance to several grocery stores and restaurants and just down the street from Walnut Street, which has coffee shops and some shopping.
Building borders on North Oakland and Shadyside. Nice neighborhoods just behind the building that have made for good running streets. Next to bus stops. Grocery store is not very walkable, but on a bus line and a short drive away by car.
I love Shadyside! The buses run quite often making it accessible to get anywhere I need to go, and there are plenty of restaurants, coffee shops, and grocery stores close.
Very nice neighborhood, close to restaurants, bars, shopping, groceries, and bus stops that take you anywhere in the city. Slightly pricey
Very safe and quiet! Access to all the major bus lines: 75, 71A, 71B, 71C, 71D which all come fairly frequently!
very safe and fun neighborhood to live in! Also very convenient and easy access to campus when needed.
Within walking distance to bars, restaurants, grocery stores, many public buses, and nice parks!
Excellent neighborhood. A lot of residential areas but also several restaurants and bars
