Vaughan Place

When I first came to check out apartments around AU, Vaughan Place came highly recommended. Great tour, everyone treated us very nicely while we were checking it out, and made a big show of welcoming us. Since living there, it's just an okay spot. I'm mostly happy it's close to campus, and grocery stores, and it's a safe spot for me and my cat. Management could be more responsive and kinder but they manage a big property, so it's understandable.

Lots of money, shitty service

I live in a great apartment, if you don't count the ant infestations I get monthly. I can count on one hand the amount of times I easily received a package from the mailroom. Lost my mail with irreplaceable items. They current have my mail but will not give it to me because their package system is always malfunctioning. The leasing people seem nice, but they have too many issues to worry about so they dont actually care about you. Also, there is construction almost every day, so much so that I have been unable to drive my car to work because of construction work. Otherwise its a great neighborhood, if you can get around people hiding your packages from you.

Expensive, but close to school.

It is very expensive, however the location is helpful. I am ten minutes away from the school, and that extra money is worth it for extra sleep.

Pricey, but close to campus

The apartment complex is pricey but close to campus. The neighbors are not loud (except for their dogs) and the apartment is very nice. There is a pool and gym facility, but the gym does not have benchpress equipment (only dumbbells, mats, treadmills, etc.)

Good Living Space, poor management

My roommate and I thoroughly enjoy our apartment at Vaughn in addition to being located in a central area. The management can struggle at times to be organized with requests however, the complex was recently bought by a new managing group so this may change.

Great Property

Very good location in a safe, nice neighborhood with many restaurants within short walking distance. All units include washer/dryer in unit. Pet friendly with a flat rate pet fee at move in. Plenty of street parking, but lot parking is available for additional monthly fee. Small apartments with very open floor plan, so feels spacious. Kitchen is great for anyone who cooks frequently. Some 1bed/1bath units have large private balcony. Very walkable neighborhood with nice sidewalks and a dog park very close by. Ideal for pet owners.

Poor management, too expensive

I paid about $1800+ for the studio apartment, and maintenance hardly did their job. I had a roach infestation for two years and the apartment voided the lease by failing to fumigate despite my multiple warnings. I moved and the cockroach infestation was so bad, some of them followed me into my new apartment.

Too many dogs but everything else is great.

My only complaint about this building is the dog to human ratio and the dog hair that comes along with the building's dog population. All the staff is very helpful and friendly, maintenance requests are often dealt with within the day or the next. The area is wonderful. Handful of restaurants close by with great food, and workout spots. While the metro isn't that close by, I have found I can get pretty much anywhere I want to go by taking the bus that stops less than a 2 minute walk away.

Some Pros and Cons

Pros: The Tower at Vaughan Place is very nice. The staff is great and I feel very safe. I don't have a pet but it seems vet pet friendly. Nice pool in summer, nice but small gym.

Cons: Limited storage space, limited street parking at times.

Pretty Decent

Of course when you are living in DC you are paying for location so for how small the apartment is, it is a pretty ridiculous price. Other than that, the apartments are clean and well taken care of. Staff are nice enough and the others living in the building are nice as well. Easy access to the metro as well. Great swimming pool.
