Capitol Hill Riverfront

A Fun Neighborhood by the River
"The 21st Century Neighborhood", Capitol Hill Riverfront is a developing neighborhood known for its contemporary architecture and frolicking streets. It holds many events such as the noon yards eve and cartoon skate annually and celebrates its riverfront with dancing fountains or ice skating at the Canal Park or the exhilarating events at the Yard Park.

Reviewers rave about this neighborhood for its close proximity to the Washington Nationals stadium and easy access to metro. As you can tell by the cover photo, dogs are welcome in Capitol Hill Riverfront and being able to take a stroll along the water is another reason this community is so active.

Capitol Hill Riverfront — 7.9/10 Rating (based on 32 neighborhood reviews)
Navy Yard is a very new, young, vibrant neighborhood with many young professionals. Many new retailers are setting up shop here and its filled with sports bars and nightlife. However, the food scene is better in NW. There are not many great restaurants down in Navy Yard but the Wharf is only a quick walk or scooter ride away (during the day time, don't walk at night). I have always felt safe walking my dog early or late at night but there have been several issues with car jackings.

I love the Riverfront so much. There are bars and restaurants, a great grocery store, plenty of events and things to do, and there's something new being built every day. The metro is accessible within a few blocks of most apartments as there are two entrances, and the population is full of pet-loving young professionals. Did I mention the Nationals stadium is in the middle of it all? I can't wait to see what my hood looks like in 5 years.

I really like the area. it has a lot of different food spots and isn't far from grocery stores. the only thing i don't like is sometimes when the Nationals play the traffic can get a little chaotic

Navy yard is still up and coming but I love it already. Tons of restaurants and bars have opened up near the ballpark and the rest of the neighborhood is slowly expanding. It can get a little crazy on game days and I dread needing to metro right when a game is starting or ending but I’ve never felt unsafe which is really all I ask.

Dog friendly. Friendly neighbors. Close to 2 metro stops. Convenient Circulator bus. Close to Yards Park. Close to Nats Ballpark. Close to Eastern Market. Grocery store (Harris Teeter). Walk to the Capitol and Mall. Mostly safe. Lots of construction noise. New stores, restaurants, bars, etc. opening all the time. Great local liquor store (Harry's).

Easy to get to the Hill. Close to awesome restaurants, including Blue Jacket, Nando's, Due South, and Osteria Morini. Sometimes feels a little unsafe (there have been a slew of armed robberies), but as long as you're aware of your surroundings, you should be fine.

Neighborhood is in the process of developing so there's a lot of construction which can be frustrating. However, there are plenty of restaurants and more on the way. The waterfront is also a really nice area and you can't beat the proximity to the ballpark.

We've lived in multiple buildings in this neighborhood over the past few years and we absolutely love it. The gorgeous waterfront is a few minutes from any building in the neighborhood and we are steadily getting new restaurants and finally the advent of fast-casual restaurants too. There are still areas of the neighborhood that are less safe, but my first apartment was squarely within the less-than-safe part, and there were never any incidents. There is a fair amount of construction to contend with, but it is merely indicative of how quickly this neighborhood is booming. The prices are unlikely to stay this low for long; we are already seeing a steady jump in pricing in all the surrounding buildings.

I love living in Navy Yard!! I am a ten minute walk to work and five minutes from two metro stops. There is a Harris Teeter within easy walking distance and a Whole Foods on the way. The area down on the water in Yards park is beautiful and has a great variety of restaurants, bars and necessities (gym/salon etc.) As a Nats fan, being steps from the ballpark is also a HUGE plus. The only con right now is all of the construction going on, but within the next year it will just mean more exciting things for the area so it's not all that bad.

I love this area! We're close to metros, grocery stores, and great local businesses. It's a very close walk to parks and the Anacostia waterfront. It can feel removed from the law school, which I enjoy, though if you're new to the area it can be more challenging.

This is an up-and-coming area of DC as I understand it. Most of the things around here are new. It's a little expensive, but most of DC is that way as well. A lot of the people who live here seem to be young professionals. There's lots of parks for dogs. It's a pretty area with plenty to do and it's quieter than other parts of DC I've visited. Not quite as cute as some other areas, but that's ok. It has its own thing going on.

Pros: close to metro, fun to live by the Nats stadium, summer concerts at Yards Park are great, new restaurants coming in all the time, just got a Harris Teeter, walkable to Capitol Hill and Eastern Market.

Cons: Lots of construction, Metro and traffic is very busy during game days, not very easy to get to the red line from neighborhood.

The neighborhood is very up and coming so there is constant construction, which is exciting but can be inconvenient. The green line is great, orange/blue/silver are a fine walk when it is good weather but too far in the cold or rain.
