West End
Winston-Salem's Front Porch
West End, the first suburb of Winston-Salem, is known as “Winston-Salem’s front porch”, and its welcoming personality reflects its nickname. The town’s friendly atmosphere stems from its original landscape plan, created by Jacob Lott Ludlow - who was inspired by the imagery of a traditional suburb. Ludlow’s influence on the city’s lovely residential setup has remained true to this day. The neighborhood boasts charming rolling hills, mature oak trees, and homes that reflect turn-of-the-century architecture - including Queen Anne, Neoclassical, Colonial Revival and Craftsman. For enjoying the scenic outdoors, residents have the option of Hanes Park or Grace Court Park.
There are also plenty of places to eat, drink, and socialize with friends in West End. Restaurants in the area include The Old Fourth Street Filling Station, Mozelle’s Fresh Southern Bistro, and Bib’s Downtown. Bars in the area that the younger crowd like to hit up include Burke Street Pub, Second & Green Tavern, Bull’s Tavern, and The Quiet Pint Tavern. For people who want to live in a lovely traditional setting while also being close to downtown perks, West End can’t be beat.

It is on the edge of the nice part of town and then the less nice part. But it is in a Main Street so I always feel safe and the key fob entry to the building helps. I’ve not had any problems here. I also love the neighborhood because there is a big park that I work out in a 10 min walk away, and some good food and bars just done the street
