NoMa
Up-and-Coming Neighborhood with Rising Developments
NoMa is an emerging neighborhood and very popular among residents for several reasons, several being its transportation options, its upcoming nightlife and restaurants, its yearly cultural or musical events and its public wi-fi. There is so much in such a small space that post offices, the well-known Union Market, and other amenities are just a short walk away.
Because it's trendy and new, it has a tight-knit community and provides a different feel than the classic downtown DC scene. Shops, restaurants, and housing options are being quickly developed here and offer plenty of options to those looking to make this vibrant neighborhood their new home.

The neighborhood is good. Some great places nearby with a bit of a walk. Great if you enjoy downtown area and proximity to the national mall. Some other areas are a bit run down, but overall really good.

NoMa is still transforming from an industrial area to a dense, walkable urban neighborhood of apartments, offices and retail. The main amenities I look forward to having in the future are more bars and local (not chain) restaurants in NoMa, and more park space. I wish the NoMa Parks Foundation success in holding on to enough land to build high-quality parks.

NoMa lacks character but makes up for it in amenities and, I guess, effort to be community oriented. The BID is quite active, sponsoring lots of events and fighting for park space. Crime is average for a transitioning neighborhood. Harris Teeter is the best grocery store! Proximity to the red line and Capital Bikeshare means transit is relatively supported.

NoMa is a nice neighborhood there are some spots I prefer not to walk alone at night, but overall if you are aware of where you are it's relatively convenient, and there are lots of cool new spots popping up around Noma on H St. and in Union Market.

Love living in NoMa, and more restaurants/bars are being added all the time, but it sometimes feels a bit out of the way. Great to have the metro and bike lanes so close!

Fairly safe, though I wouldn't roam around a lot at night. It's certainly a transitioning neighborhood. Lots of people with dogs, big and small.

Noma is a cool area with young professionals mainly and has a lot of food/bar options! It's about 30 min from campus via metro, 20 min driving, (don't walk to campus). The apartment itself is super safe, as is the immediately surrounding area. But it isn't safe to walk west of the area or too far north either.

There’s a few local bars and beer gardens which is nice, a few grocery stores, a Starbucks, multiple restaurants, metros stop, and great clips all in walking distance. But there have been multiple incidents of people getting into the building who don’t live here, a homeless man overdosing in front of someone’s apartment, and management put the onus on the residents to fix the situation

I really enjoy living in this neighborhood. It's not too far away from the center of town, so most attractions are 20-30 minutes by metro at the most. There's always new shops and developments popping up, which keeps it interesting. And although it sometimes gets a bad reputation for safety, I've never had any problems.

Right across the street from the NoMA / Galludet Metro!
Very close to Union Market, Harris Teeter, Starbucks and a few quick food places! Going out is typically a short Uber ride, but it's quick and cheap. In the next 1-3 years there will be more in the immediate area. Keep reading

Pros: Red line access, Capital Bikeshare stations, Zip car locations, fast foods nearby, one metro stop from Union Station, free neighborhood Wi-Fi
Cons: Not a lot of restaurant options or shopping within walking distance Keep reading

More security needs to take place in the neighborhood as robberies have been taking place. To much construction in the area, traffic is going to be very bad as the streets are not fitted for crowded communities

I am not a fan of this area. I do not feel comfortable leaving the apartment after 10 pm because it feels really unsafe. However, there are many shopping sites near here and Chinatown is so close by.

there are several restaurants and grocery store right near the metro, and some new places have recently opened, but it still has a ways to go to be great.

Noma is up and coming, but the building itself is right next to some sketchy buildings. There is a large amount of homeless people in the neighborhood as well. However, they are building a ton of new apartment complexes and trying to clean up the neighborhood as a whole.

I don't venture too far outside of the few blocks of NoMa because outside of the neighborhood isn't as safe. However, the city has done a lot to revamp the area in the past few years, so there are new restaurants and bars opening up. I also live right across the street from the metro, which makes the rest of the city much more accessible.

NoMa is approximately a 35 minute commute to GWU. However, my roommate works on the hill which is less than 10 minutes away. There is a Harris Teeter connected to the building so you don't even have to go outside in order to shop for groceries. The area is still up and coming, so some of the surrounding streets don't seem very safe. However, it is getting better each and every day and it is easy to avoid those streets.

It's an up and coming neighborhood though I live in the very nice part of it. It's rough across North Capitol, but there's nothing over there to go to so I never run into any issues. There's a big dog park as well as plenty to do and eat at Union Market.

It’s a developing area so there are still pockets of roughness here and there but it is a great community still. My area is clean, I have never been harassed. There are great restaurants and bars around as well as bike/running trail. I have also noticed a lot of new developments which means more housing. Yay!

Close to grocery store, and metro. No bars or sit down restaurants to walk to. High prices for not too much to do around you. We still pay over $1000 to live, yet can't walk to grab a drink and dinner, especially late at night, it is not safe. At all times of the day, we can't walk into our building without a homeless person outside of it on a bench.

Nice, up-and-coming area that's near fun neighborhoods/strips/attractions (e.g., H Street, Union Market, Capitol); is convenient for transportation (red line, Union Station); and is getting more new restaurants and stores. I do wish there were more legitimate bars in the area.

CVS, PetCo, Starbucks and Harris Teeter are all within 200 feet of our front door. Yes, the greater neighborhood is still a little sketch but the intersection we live on is so well lit and monitored by MPD that I've never felt unsafe.
