Old East Dallas —
7.6/10 Rating
(based on 28 neighborhood reviews)
The area is becoming gentrified, so some areas feel unsafe while others feel very walkable. There is an upcoming bar scene along Ross. I love that I am close to everything -- Fair Park, Deep Ellum, Downtown, Uptown, White Rock Lake, SMU, etc. I am close to Kroger, Target, Sprouts and Whole Foods. There are TONS of restaurant and nightlife options. I would not recommend using scooters in the streets and to be wary riding a bike. There are few bike lanes and sidewalks end randomly. There are many gyms, libraries and things to do nearby including a few parks and simple trails.

Amazing location. Quick access to 75 and into heart of downtown. Takes only 5 minutes to get to Lemmon Ave, Greenville Ave and Skillman Ave. Area surrounding the property is either residential neighborhood or sketchy gas stations. Shady characters have been spotted on the property peeking in the gymnasium windows. But overall, safe comparable to anything further south.

The ICON at Ross
It has great access to 75, but as soon as you drive further away from the highway, you can tell that the area gets a little more dangerous and rough. However, it's a quick drive to Target and Whataburger, so that is wonderful

The neighborhood is mid-gentrification. There are areas that have been completely gentrified and areas that have yet to be touched. It is definitely a diverse area with a lot of cool restaurants.

The neighborhood is definitely a fun place to be as a social young person in Dallas - the proximity in the city and popular bars and restaurants can't really be beat

The neighborhood is up and coming so there are a lot of good restaurants popping up in the immediate area. Lots of young professionals live in this area.

The neighborhood is fantastic. The closer you get towards 75 or Fitzhugh is not the best. Camden Henderson is situated in a cozy area.

It's undergoing a transformation; starting to get bars and restaurants. Lots of walkable parks to get to.

I frequently walk to Deep Ellum or Downtown in the mornings for coffee or lunch - wouldn’t recommend it at night if you aren’t with a large group. Tomb thumb grocery and gas is right across the street and there are two parks within 5 minute walking distance. Great place to be - if you aren’t looking for the location to supplement or support your social life.

We have lived in Swiss Tower for almost three years. We love living on campus at Dallas Theological Seminary! Great neighbors and community. We can see Fair Park from our window.

Henderson is a great area- there are lots of bars, restaurants, and shops, and it is a little cheaper than the Knox side.

I hate the neighborhood that I live in. The apartment complex as a whole does not belong in this area. For the quality and price it deserves a better location. I have lived there for 10 months and heard construction every single day. It is a lower income area, a lot of homeless people roam the streets, causing noise and sometimes an unsafe feeling.

I have always felt very safe in this neighborhood! Cute neighborhoods for walking dog or running through. Walking distance from some VERY fabulous restaurants and bars. Easy access to 75, and only a 10 minute or less commute to campus.

Apartments in Old East Dallas are close enough to Uptown and Knox Henderson that you get the city vibe without the city prices. Check out Jimmy's Food Store - an Italian grocery store with THE BEST sandwiches and cannolis!

I don't really know Dallas neighborhood s and I don't go out much because of Covid. I thought I lived in uptown, but I think my apartment is on the border.

I like the neighborhood. It is more quiet and residential while still being very close to the more active areas such as Deep Ellum, Uptown, and Downtown.

Not the best aesthetically on the outside. A decent amount of the homeless population walks around but none sleep close to the apartment.

There's a good amount of things to do around here, good food and grocery options right nearby. I'm really close to the Arts District and a lot of other prime downtown locations. My commute to SMU is really quick because I'm right off 75 just a few exits from Mockingbird. The neighborhood is a mix of new apartment buildings and older residences. People are nice and friendly. My only complaint is that there's quite a bit of trash on the streets but not a lot of trash cans so that's understandable. Just a bit of a problem walking my dog who wants to sniff everything.

The neighborhood is pretty commercial, so it’s not very peaceful…. But lots of good stuff is located very close by or right next to the building (gym/grocery)
