Great location, dated apartments

Pros
Spacious apartment with lots of storage.
Safe neighborhood.
Quiet and green surroundings.
Plenty of parking.
Walking distance to a cafe and grocery store. 6-10 minute drive to UNC.
Has a bus stop.
Third floor has vaulted ceiling.
Covered patio with storage
Fireplace
Cheaper than newer apartments

Cons:
The apartment comes without laundry. The options are to install your own washer and dryer or pay an additional fee per month for the apartment to install theirs. It’s really inconvenient and adds to your costs.
$35 per month fee for a trash valet that picks up your trash five days a week.
The bathrooms are very dated and small. They have no drawers and very little counter space. The bathroom floor is vinyl and peeling off.
No kitchen island.
1980s popcorn ceiling that is yellowing.
Carpet looks old. First floors are all vinyl if you don’t like carpet.
The rent is determined by an algorithm so the prices could change daily and differ depending on move in date and number of months.
They use a software company called RealPage to set rent price. The apartment managers don’t determine the price. Realpage is being investigated by the FBI.
Very small gym

Would recommend southern village

Southern village is a great spot. Clean, safe and very near the bus stop so can take the bus straight up to Franklin or get off by hospital and walk to business school pretty easily. Would recommend. Lived here both years during MBA

Great location, nice apartments

Great location less than a 10 minute drive from UNC's campus in a relatively quiet and safe neighborhood. There are a number of shops and restaurants, including a Weaver Street Market, within walking distance in the Southern Village neighborhood. Property management and building maintenance are responsive and apartments are generally well maintained.

Beautiful, safe, neighborhood living

Living at Southern Village is comfortable, safe, relatively affordable, and a quick 5-10 minute drive to KFBS. 10min to Franklin Street/Carrboro, 10min to Trader Joe’s/Whole Foods/Harris Teeter, 15min to Durham, 20min to Raleigh. We have our own community shopping center that you can walk to with a small grocery (Weaver Street Market), and multiple restaurants and coffee shops.

Love this area

The apartment is in great shape and provides a wonderful location for a somewhat affordable price. I would recommend this to anyone who doesn't care about living on-campus. Bus-line is available and walking distance to weaver street market.

Quiet, well maintained property with great access to bus line and shops

We love living in Southern Village. It has access to the bus line for school and has a handful of great shops and restaurants within walking distance. The club house and gym membership are nice perks.
