Decent experience

Good maintenance. Rooms were a bit small but cannot complain about the larger common space.

NY Tower

The building is very clean and in a quite part of town by the East River. Management is great and normally resolves maintenance issues right away. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Great building. Very few cons

I had a great experience with the Real Estate agent when we were viewing the apartment and filling out the application. The elevators are a bit slow/always busy but we were made aware of this before renting out the apartment. Since we moved in 5 months back, they have been doing maintenance work (Local law 11) and we have not had access to our balcony. Some times noise is an issue before of traffic from the tunnel but it's not that big of a deal. Other than that the management team is great. If we have any issues, they come to fix it pretty soon. The doormen are very friendly. Package delivery is notified via email. The building uses buildinglink so that's great. Wish there was a gym though. But there is a yoga studio right next door so that's something. It's about a 10-12 minute walk to grand central which is the closest station. No pets allowed anymore. Building hosts multiple social events in lobby like pizza night, holiday breakfast, music night etc. Dry cleaning services, valet and parking is also available.

College dorm that is poorly managed, but a good value

New York Tower is pretty close to an extended college dormitory, with a significant number of young professionals recently graduated from college who act like they are still in college. There are usually a few too many parties in the building, and the residents can be inconsiderate of their neighbors at times - too noisy and too messy. It's not unsurprising to see trash strewn about the hallway.
Management seems to recognize that the majority of residents are kids, and therefore is not very willing to help with repairs or issues that arise in the apartment. It takes persistence to have anything addressed by the repairmen, and even then the response at times is that they no longer repair or cover the costs for that particular issue.
There are no true amenities to speak of, though there is on site dry cleaning and a laundry room in the basement.
Nonetheless, the value is pretty good, as you can pay less than most doorman buildings for a studio or one bedroom. The trade-off is of course the neighborhood (which is not the best), your college graduate neighbors, and typically unresponsive management.

Frat to Family

Before moving in, I heard the apartment was notorious for young post grad party residents. When I moved in recently April 1st of last year, it seemed like the dynamic was changing. It was very different than what I was told the building would be like. Most of the residents are young as told, but it hasn't been loud and party like at all. There are a lot of young families, and if you love dogs, you are most likely going to be riding in an elevator with one! The staff for the most part is great and accommodating, but there can be improvements. There are issues with the elevators at times that can take a while, but it has been pleasant so far.

I always feel safe and welcome. The people are very nice and talkative. The sights are truly remarkable and living in Midtown is an extraordinary experience, especially with the bar and restaurant scene, the entertainment scene, and so forth. Even Central Park is a wonderland to explore in itself and can be done freely. What's also a highlight about this location is the accessibility of places and people around you; everything is in walking distance, unless you're looking to venture to another area of New York City. You will never run out of places to explore and people to engage with, as people are always traveling to and from New York City - it is a melting pot of many cultures and ethnicities and one of the most diverse places in the world.
I LOVE living in Chelsea. It's close enough to the office so the commute isn't bad but there is so much good food and nightlife around you so you feel very connected socially.
Center of the Universe, between time square and central park.
For commute to school, the NYU shuttle is extremely convenient with travel time under 15mins.
Great bars and restaurants, and close to Central Park, but a distinct lack of affordable grocery options.
5 minute walk to Trader Joe's. Target in-building. Fairway 3 minute walk away. Several bars and restaurants nearby on Third Ave. 40 minute walk to Washington Square Park area. 10 minute walk to the closest subway (the 6), but there are bus lanes nearby. Incredibly close to two major hospitals (great during the COVID age, but lots of ambulance sirens).
See first thing I wrote. Kips bay/murray hill has a great bar and restaurant scene, very young. You don't really go out Friday/Saturday night here, not enough dancing type bars, but it's awesome for just about every other occasion. Central location for everywhere that you would go in any situation though.
Great food, bars, and people and very close to multiple modes of transport to easily get anywhere in the city. There are several bus stops right at your doorstep and a ferry about a two minute walk over on the Ave C side. Easy access to East River Walk for other activities and sports as well. Very easy to get to major hub at Union Square by foot or transport.
