Shabby Apartment with Poor Management
The management is awful. They can't keep track of rent payments nor just about anything else. Residents (& even former residents who have moved out long ago) get letters from a law firm demanding payment that has already been paid or for former residents, rent that was never owed as moved out years ago by contract. It took a long time to get a key to my mailbox and to have my online accounts set up. There are lots of very large cockroaches that are everywhere in the building. No aircon in the elevators which feel 100 degrees. The apartment and hallways are shabby with old damaged bathtub, damaged cheap floor, and old kitchen. It was a great location but because of the trouble with management, I would want them to pay me $40K to live here instead of the other way around because you don't want to live your life having these incompetent people having so much control over you. Room is dark and right across from other apartments that can see right insider yours!

Love it here!
I love this building - great transportation, there's a brand new lounge w/ rooftop deck. The management is very attentive, any problems I've had were fixed immediately. High ceilings, friendly doormen, gym...

Convenient Location, Great Amenities
The best part about living at Herald Towers is the location. The 34th St Station right outside the apartment complex doors has access to the NQRW and BDFM trains. The 123 and ACE trains are all within 5 minutes walk.
The building itself is on the older side, but management has been making constant improvements. A new gym was finished last year and access is included as part of the lease. There is also a resident lounge available and the rooftop terrace is under maintenance but slated to open again in Spring 2019.
The apartments themselves are relatively spacious, but many have been flexed into units with multiple smaller rooms. Each room has a climate control unit that does not charge additional utility rates. Bathrooms are fairly spacious as well. From my unit on the 11th floor, it can be a bit noisy because the surrounding neighborhood is filled with stores and restaurants. The apartment is pet friendly for cats and dogs.
The complex itself has a doorman available 24/7 and a package room open throughout the day. There is also a dry-cleaning service inside the building.

Great Location, Small but Sufficient Rooms
My favorite part about living at Herald Towers is that the apartment is located in a very accessible part of Manhattan, Herald Square. There is convenient access to the NQRW, BDFM & PATH lines in a station less than a minute walk from the complex. Penn Station and other subway lines are all within a 5 minute walk. Highlights of the surrounding neighborhood include Koreatown, the Empire State building, Madison Square Garden, and much more.
The rooms themselves in Herald Towers are on the smaller side. My roommates and I live in an apartment that was originally a 1 BR apartment that had the living room flexed into two additional apartments. The master bedroom is spacious but the two other rooms are on the smaller side. The apartments in this building have very high ceilings, so there is plenty of vertical space to utilize for storage and shelving.
The complex itself has many amenities. The building is on the older side, but has recently been renovated with a new gym that has a wide range of equipment. In-building laundry is available on the 3rd floor. There is a resident lounge and rooftop lounge that can be reserved for events. Heat and airconditioning are included as part of the rent. There is a doorman at the security desk and the building feels very safe.
The one complaint I have is that management is generally unresponsive via e-mail. Maintenance requests that are submitted through the building portal are addressed promptly, but communicating with management almost necessitates a visit to the leasing office within the building, which is usually only open during normal business hours.

Good location - Too old
The location is great. Lot of subway lines and restaurants.
The building is old, needs renovation. Our apartment has some trouble with the noise of the air conditioning machines and smells from the toilet pipes.

Herald Towers
I love my apartment for the location not the actual apartment. We have a nice bathrooom but the apartment itself could be way better for what we pay. Our sunlight is minimal especially in my room where there is no window due to converted rooms. The elevators are constantly breaking but the lobby is nice. The gym's machines are always broken and the TVs dont work but the rooftop is nice.

Couples & Families Welcome!
The Shipyard is a great place for couples and young families. There is an adult pool (on the weekends) and a pool that allows children at all times. It's right on the water, and everything you need is at your fingertips- dog park, playground, bars and restaurants, grocery store, pharmacy, wine store, hair salon, nail salon, garage parking, Starbucks- all within 2 blocks of the apartment.

Great location, not great management
Love the building staff and the location. High ceilings, new kitchens, a gym, but no roof deck. Management is terrible. Building demographic is predominantly 30-40 somethings, many with families. Lots of construction in the area, but that should be finished soon.
