Cheap, easy commute
great area for young professionals. Cheap and great commute. Downside - no social life in the neighborhood, safety is questionable, big supermarket just got closed down.
but close to subway, nice park is near by, great for jogging summer time and spring.

Close to NYC at fraction of NYC costs!
Great location and great price. HUGE 1 bedroom with tons of closet space. Well kept building with friendly staff. Walking distance to FREE ferry service and access to a number of trains once arriving in Manhattan. CON: Super is slow at responding to requests.

East Harlem Reviews
Access is good (express 2/3 and A train get you to mid-town in 20 minutes) and cabs are plentiful.
The neighborhood remains a fairly local one. Yes - this means there are black people, many of them lower income living on section 8 housing. If you take the time to say hello you'll find that neighbors look out for one another and treat you with respect. If you want Chelsea just cheaper, don't come to Harlem.
