Pro: Literally right across the street from the Case dental/nursing/current med school and University Hospitals. This is

Cons: Very old, dilapidated building with cracked/peeling walls, linoleum, and tile. Leaky windowsills. Thin walls, can easily hear upstairs neighbors. Frequent incidents of package disappearances from the mailbox area. No reliable street parking. Air ambulance helicopters flying overhead during warmer months. Laundry is $3 to wash and dry a load, quarters only. Central heating makes temp control difficult during winter months.

4 minute walk to class. The winter in Cleveland is awful.

Pros:
-the location is very close to the medical school - I can get from my apartment to the lecture hall in 5 minutes. It's a block away from Uptown and the Red Line for the RTA, and a few min walk from Little Italy.
-My apartment unit faces Cornell Rd, and gets lots of sunlight.
-maintenance is responsive - will resolve issues within a day or two
-Despite it being a very old building, I was very happy with how clean my unit was when I moved in. I've heard this depends on the unit though, so I would recommend you check out the exact apartment that you are hoping to live in.
-rent is very affordable for the location
-showers are hot and water pressures are good
-Most of the occupants are graduate students from all fields or young families
-I've never had an issue with packages getting stolen
-Gas stoves (much more preferable to electric)
-Elevator helps with move in
-Laundry in the basement - I've never needed to wait for a machine

Cons:
-The building is old, and with that comes: drafty windows in the wintertime (although the radiators are turned up so high that I have never had an issue with being cold in the winters), hot summers (no central A/C), and sound transmits through the floors easily. I have seen two cockroaches in the past year and a half - both were large. (I have not seen ants or mice.)
-No designated parking and street parking is difficult to find
-I live in a unit facing Cornell, and street noise is very loud - there is a helicopter landing pad on the top of UH hospitals, and the garbage trucks pick up garbage at the hospital every morning around 5-6am.

Tip: This apartment building is in very high demand and they have a long wait list. However, if you happen to call on them when they happen to have a unit that's open, they won't bother looking at their wait list. Keep checking in with them to secure a spot.

About safety: There has been an uptick in petty crime in the area. I try not to walk around past dark, and it hasn't been a problem for me because the school is very close. I would be more concerned about neighborhood safety if I didn't live as close to the school.

Reasonable apartment, dated fixtures but well maintained and location is tough to beat. Pricing is reasonable and I have lived here for 3years. Parking is street only and limited so consider if you hate hassle. No gym, few amenities, just convenient to school and cheap enough. University circle area is a plus too.

Awesome location, older building that sometimes requires contacting management. Lots of residents and professional students living in the building.

Closest building to nursing, dental, med school. It's visibly old, but the location is worth it if you don't have a car. Management is easy to get a hold of and respond efficiently to simple maintenance requests. Expect to encounter difficulties with management for larger/uncommon issues. In all, I would consider living here again because the cons don't bother me too much.

- Don't have to pay for heating/water
- Quiet building/surroundings
- Relatively safe neighborhood (basically Case campus)
- More than adequate room heating, water supply/heating

Cons:
- Old amenities (still functional, just old)
- The room needs some remodeling (minor cracks in ceiling, bowing floors)
- Pay rent by mailing checks
- No parking
- Can't really control heating in your own room (radiator) so sometimes it gets too hot
- The only nearby grocery store is Constantino's, which is $$$
