Issues I have experienced in the first 6 months I lived here:
-broken radiator heat from October-January
-burst pipes and related damage to walls and floors
-faulty wiring
-broken/unsafe kitchen appliances
-stolen property by maintenance staff
-broken dryers in laundry room
-mice
-cockroaches

many of these issues were never resolved and management is generally not helpful or responsive.

The building is in a great location, close to restaurants, bars, and public transportation. The units have a lot of natural light with updated kitchen and bathroom appliances. The floor plans are nice, but on the smaller side considering the price.

Management does not respond to emails or phone calls. I gave up on maintenance requests after making the same request three times over a span of several months without any action. The maintenance staff only works part time (there is no live-in superintendent) so if something goes wrong after hours, good luck.

I don't know who the other reviewers are referring to when they speak of "doormen" because the building does not have doormen.

Overall, I would recommend the building but you better hope you do not need anything from management or maintenance.

The doorman was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the building. You cannot beat the location of this building, it is right near the square, downtown shopping, and great restaurants. The apartments were very nice, very spacious, and have seemed to be well kept. I thought it was a really cool building.

Great location, great price for amount of space we have.
That said, management isn't all that great.

The building is satisfactory. It is very well-located, and I live in a very bright unit (the A-line) that I think is reasonably priced. The building's gym doesn't look like much, but it's convenient and serviceable. I really do like the old-world charm and the fact that not a ton of Wharton students live here. But you'll feel a bit east of all the Wharton-centric action, and it's about as far from 2401 as anyone I know lives--but only by a few minutes. Laundry in the building is illogically expensive. The location is extremely noisy, even from 5+ floors up. (I lived in New York before in a loud neighborhood, and I've never experienced anything like this.) Also, the floor A/C untis the building provides (and insists on you using) really don't get the job done. You'll suffer through the hotter months.

Charming building, independently owned and managed. Apartments vary in size and price, but all have good light and pre-war features (i.e., wood floors, glass door handles, plenty of closets) but also some pre-war drawbacks (rickety radiators, not enough outlets). Being a sort of one-man show, management lacks efficiency but you have the pleasure of dealing with a person not a corporate entity. I love my apartment though!

I have been satisfied with the building. It's an old building and has much more character than the new ones like 1500 Locust. All hardwood floors. Price is good relative to what you get. The building is in a noisy area though, which I don't like. Lots of street noise from people late at night coming home from bars, especially on weekends. There has been construction going on across the street since I moved in (8/2013), which is very loud in the morning. Hopefully that will stop sometime soon. The management is very cheap and only puts in the minimum amount of money to fix things. Best doorman in the city with Norman, but he only works during the day and there is no nighttime coverage.

What I liked: Our apartment had a huge living room full of daylight. What I didn't like: I had to call for maintenance quite often. The doorman was there few hours per day only. We had mice in the apartment, and the best was the landlord could do was to put few mice traps in the kitchen. Bedrooms are very noisy due to traffic outside.

Older building, but "vintage" feel. The unit has hardwood floors and good layout and lighting. It is definitely old and not renovated. The kitchen was very tiny, but we were able to expand it into the dining room to create a great setup. Building is decent overall. Door man only during the day. The rest of the staff are decent. The management is not bad, but do not like to put money into the building and do all repairs as cheaply as possible
