Very new and clean, great area

Thomas Place apartments are a 10 minute walk from the Ballston metro but you get to walk through the Ballson mall half that time so it's not bad if it's cold or rainy out. I feel very safe walking home by myself late at night. If you live on the 4th floor, the ceilings are really tall. Dittmar is great at fixing maintenance problems quickly. There are a ton of young people who live here. No one interacts much with their neighbors though. You don't get in trouble if you have a kind of loud party. It would be better if we had a balcony and pool.

Great apartment for hosting, 10 minute walk from metro, lots of young people

Thomas Place is pretty new so it is in great condition. I live on the 4th floor which is the top floor so the ceilings are very high. The kitchen opens up to the living room so it has a very open layout wich is great for hosting parties. There is a counter for bar stools as well as an area right by the kitchen for a table. The kitchen, bathroom, and entry hallway are tile floors. The living room and bedrooms are carpeted. The living room and kitchen have floor to ceiling windows which bring it a ton of light! Our view is of the Harris Teeter parking lot but that doesn't really bother me. All the appliances work really well. The building is full of young people so people don't get mad if you have loud music playing on the weekends. The gym has 2 treadmills, 3 ellipticals, 1 stationary bike, and about 6 different weight machines, as well as free weights. There are usually 2-3 people in the gym, so there is plenty of space. Management is really good at coming to fix maintenance problems quickly. This is actually called 2 bedrooms plus den because the 3rd bedroom/den doesn't have any windows so it can't be called a bedroom. It is smaller, but it stil has a closet and attached bathroom. There is also a huge closet in the entry hallway that can be used to store miscellaneous stuff like luggage or winter coats. There is a security person who walks around at nights and she is really friendly! It is about a 10 minute walk from the metro but you only have to walk outside for 5 minutes and then you can walk through Ballston mall so if it's cold/rainy, you're only outside for 5 minutes. I feel pretty safe walking home alone late at night.
The apartment complex is lacking an outdoor space. I think Henderson Place has an outdoor grill area which would be nice. It would also be nice to have a balcony.

About Ballston

Living in the suburbs and still finding a vibrant city a few blocks away is what Ballston is all about. Reach the city with great ease, and find some great restaurants such as the Tutto Bene and the Caribbean Breeze, or maybe the Taste of Arlington Annual Street Fair. If that is not appealing enough...

Getting around Ballston

Ballston Reviews

55 reviews
Ballston is a relatively residential area that is pretty affordable given it's proximity to DC. Good restaurants and cafes, easy transit, but no loud bars or clubs. That could be a positive or negative depending on what you're looking for.
I personally like being in Arlington. Everything is walkable and while it's not DC proper, it's very easy to get into the city via metro or a quick drive in. I've run to Georgetown in 20-30 minutes. There's stuff to do and there's everything you could need: gyms, grocery stores, shopping, restaurants, bars so close by. Ballston is a hub for transport so buses and the metro abound.
It can be a little noisy if you're too close to Wilson, Glebe or Fairfax roads, especially if you're right above the bus stop like I am, but nothing light background noise can't drown out; I sleep with a fan and I sleep like a baby. The public transport can't be beat, and it seems like a new restaurant opens every day. I'm interested in looking at houses in the area when I can afford to buy!
We are right across from Ballston Quarter which has a Union Market type of food court. The area is developing so quickly, very trendy and everything is within walking distance. Even though it's very walkable it does not feel as congested as DC.
I definitely feel that it's up and coming-- so much construction and many new restaurants and shops popping up! IT's very walkable. It's also pretty safe and it's close to highways, the Potomac, to DC, etc so the location is pretty great.
I love living in Ballston. I don’t have a car and never feel like I need one. Richmond Square is a block from the metro to take me into DC, and there are plenty of places to eat and things to do right here in Ballston.
Great spot for young people. There are tons of amazing restaurants and bars nearby that you can walk to. Also only a short metro ride to DC.
It's quiet but there are plenty of restaurants/coffee shops within walking distance and will be more when Ballston Quarter opens.
