Great experience

I absolutely love living at Hawthorne House. The studio layout is ideal and super spacious. It is so convenient having buses (135, 146, 151) literally right outside your door. The management has been nothing but amazing and almost everything about living here is perfect. However, I have two major grievances: 1. The lockout fee is $50!! Insane, none of my other friends' buildings have any lockout fee.. 2. The roof is only open when the pool is open, I know other buildings that have it open all year round - I don't see why not.

Hawthorne House is spectacular

Great, friendly, responsive staff, in-building parking, gorgeous views and apartments, great amenities. Storage locker included! So many closets. Ceiling to floor windows. 24/7 gym on the 40th floor. Rooftop pool and grill during the warm months with an incredible view of the city skyline.

No complaints here!

Hawthorne House is an amazing place to live! It was a little over my budget but I'm glad I worked it out because I would live here forever if I could! Anytime I have a maintenance issue - clogged toilet/drain, lights, etc. - the issue is resolved within 24 hours without fail. The doormen are extremely friendly and I always feel very safe coming home because of them! I highly recommend living here!

Not worth bang for the buck

Nice place on the exterior but the internal stuff is broken down. Some neighbors are obnoxious. Very cold and windy in winters. Staff is friendly but incompetent. Close to bus lines but not trains which means if you are traveling during rush hour traffic, it will be a very long, slow commute.

Amazing view, no laundry

I love my place - floor to ceiling windows with a view of the lake and the skyline, tons of closet space, and a huge bedroom. The maintenance crew takes great care of me, and so did the onsite valet attendants when I owned a car. But no laundry! :(

Lakeview Reviews

I'm technically at the intersection of Lakeview, Buena Park, and Wrigleyville so I feel like I get a mix of all three neighborhoods in my day to day. Buena Park is much more family oriented and a bit more affordable, but it is small so finding an apartment there is tricky. Lakeview is very good for young professionals and pets but is definitely pricier. Wrigleyville is even more expensive, but has good nightlife and restaurants. All three are super easy to access transit from and get to the Chicago campus.
I love how convenient the location is. There's a ton of great restaurants really close by, so many bus lines right around the corner or within a 5 minute walk, and Lincoln Park right across the street. My commute downtown is only 15 minutes and there's also a bus available to get to the brown and purple L trains. There's a Mariano's, Trader Joe's, and Target all within 10 minute walking distance so shopping is very convenient. I generally feel really safe walking in this area as the streets are busy and well lit.
Similar crowd (young professionals), close to the lake, parks nearby, safe, accessible grocery stores and shops and restaurants.
Quiet, very residential, mostly families because of the great CPS schools nearby
Lakeview is a great spot for young professionals and those looking for an active social life. The area comes alive in the summer with baseball games and is not far from beaches and great shopping and eating areas.
Lakeview has plenty of beautiful, tree-lined neighborhoods and a robust bar and restaurant scene. It is a destination neighborhood with tons of boutiques, Wrigley Field, and a welcoming environment. I chose to live here because I am gay and wanted to have very easy, direct access to the lakefront path for running and biking.
The main reason we moved here was the neighborhood. Broadway, Clark, Diversey and Belmont are all within walking distance and offer all of the shops, restaurants, bars and grocery stores you could need. It really is in a prime, unbeatable location. Not to mention it's a block from Lake Michigan and walking distance to Lincoln Park and a short bike ride from Montrose Beach.
My street and neighborhood are usually fairly quiet. Sundays seem to be the going out day in the neighborhood but it isn't disruptive to my every day life. Overall it seems like a very safe area and being a young woman living alone, that is very important. Would definitely recommend to friends and family.
