LOVE Yale West

My studio apartment is by far the largest studio I've seen in this price range. It's L-shaped vs. one big room, which really gives the feel of separate living spaces. I have two gigantic windows that let in a ton of natural light. Concierge is great and the gym and rooftop pool are beautiful. Appliances are a little loud, but they're stainless steel which is attractive. Apartment was spotless when I moved in. Five stars!

Nice, but sometimes loud

I get a lot of space for what I pay, and the amenities are great (gym, rooftop pool). Recently, the building has become a lot louder -- and has started to feel a little bit like a frat house. But the walls are thicker than in some new buildings in DC.

Great value

Nice modern building with a great pool deck and nice gym in a walk-able, central downtown location.

-15 tier rooms are perfect for roommates and offer great square footage and closet space.

Management is friendly and puts on a great deal of events.

Up and Coming Area

This apartment complex has become an up-and-coming area since I moved in. While it is a bit loud at times (the highway is located just outside), I really love the close proximity to areas like Chinatown and Mt. Vernon Square and the Convention Center. It is also close to the hip area called Shaw. I have only had a few small instances where I felt unsafe at night in the apartment complex's back alley, and overall there is a strong police presence nearby. I think this area is a good value for anyone looking to stay in DC long term. The area is only growing and expanding.

Great space in a hip area of town!

Have been at the building for several years and have no real complaints. The amenities are great and the staff is very nice and helpful. It is easy to walk to several metro stations and DC hot spots. The rooftop pool is a great place to hang out during the summer and interact with neighbors. Building is very young and fun!

Excellent Building

Yale west is a fairly new building in a fantastic location. There are lots of great food options and very convenient metro access as well. The building has amazing amenities, including a pretty great gym and swimming pool. The prices are a bit high, but in line with a luxury apartment in the area.

Nice new building, great location

The building is really nice and it's incredibly convenient to have a gym on site. W/D in unit is also a huge plus! The construction next door can get loud at times (especially early in the morning). Rent is also pretty high.

Going on three years........

Going on my third year living in Yale West and overall, for the location and the amenities, it is a great deal. -15 tier unit is ideal for roommates, plus you have a rooftop saltwater pool, a pretty nice gym, and a courtyard with BBQ grills.

Yale West

Yale West is a fairly new building that is great for grad students and young professionals. The location is amazing and the staff are friendly and responsive. There is a Safeway across the street, and lots of places nearby to eat including a Chipotle

Expensive but worth it

Yale West is a newer apartment building with great views of the city. Its location in north Chinatown makes getting around the city by foot very easy. It's around a 30 minute walk to campus or a 20 minute bus ride. It's two blocks from the yellow/green line and 3-4 from the blue/orange/red lines. The staff are very friendly and know most residents by name. Maintence is always done promptly when requested. The rooftop pool is great during the summer, but they recently added some new rules like only allowing two guests. The gym is open 24 hours but missing things like a squat rack and barbells. It's not a budget residence, and the high price is unfortunate.

Love this area, right near Logan Circle and 14th street which has so much good food and nightlife!
Amazing neighborhood. Close to GW and close to so much good food and nice restaurants.
Sometimes noisy, but the front desk quickly deal with it if you ask
Great, Safe neighborhood with great food and close to campus.
Foggy Bottom/West End are great for 1Ls -- you will get to know the area around school and you will be conveniently within a few blocks of GW. There are a lot of food options, but night life is lacking (though you're a short walk to DuPont and Georgetown). There are plenty of busses and metros around.
Good only in the sense that it is near the school, that you can receive warnings from the school and D.C. (if signing up), that you can be assured of safety generally even if coming in late due to pulling off night studies in the library. However, noise levels are high, so you can hardly study indoors at home because of people wanting to earn money in exchange for their loud and terrible performances. This means that you may ultimately end up outside for work or rest during morning/afternoon. Noise in the evening can be high too due to some people having gone drunk. Noise (some loud trucks and mostly machine sounds) and lights can be too much for sleeping deeply.
It's really only convenient because of how close the law school is. Otherwise, I would not live here. Definitely a business/corporate area that shuts down on the weekends. Not a lot of options for going out to eat unless it's either overpriced or fast food. The only grocery store that's walking distance is Whole Foods, which I personally hate shopping at.
The Aston is the furthest GW housing from the campus, so we had to walk more than any other student to get to class. We are also the furthest away from any Metro station, but still not considerably far when you look at the big picture. There are grocery stores, bars, and restaurants nearby which is a perk, but it is pretty noisy around here. But I guess that's anywhere in Downtown DC. There are always cars honking, ambulance sirens, etc. But the area seems pretty safe.
