Beware of Scam

We were 2 summer interns who decided to live in Seattle instead of in the suburbs like had done the prior summer. We liked the Lightbox apartment and location. The problem is, they have a history of scamming you after you vacate the premises. There are many reviews out there just like ours that attest to our experience. They do this especially to out of state students. Once you leave and go back home they hit you with made up and unsubstantiated charges like smoke damage and having to paint the entire apartment and ceiling twice! They can't supply pictures or receipts for the repair work. The comical aspect, if there is one, is that during our 3 month stay, we did not cook and we do not smoke. They know that the amount they charge is not high enough to expend the money necessary to retain an attorney, fly out for court appearances, and fight them, so in the end, after you try to reason with them, you end up begrudgingly giving them the $1100 they require just to make the situation go away. We did so because of their threat to go to collections and ruin our credit. The irony, we couldn’t pay online or mail them a check. We had to give the thieves our credit card number over the phone. As college students, bad credit is a big concern of ours and we were told if we didn’t pay that day over the phone it was going to collections. This was a horrible situation and we were so taken advantage. I've learned a great lesson the hard way. Before moving into my next apartment I will read reviews first, check with the local police department, and force a final walk-through prior to leaving. Thank you for allowing me to share my experience.

Close to school, always people around, stuff going on, stuff open late, water and greenery and bus lines all nearby.
Easy access to everything. Close to campus. Beautiful place.
There are pretty good restaurants in the U district, a variety of grocery stores and easy access to UW.
Overall safe, but not clean.
Close to campus, but the ave gets old
very safe and a lot of food.
Good food around and very close to campus but not much else to do and not actually a very clean or scenic area
Prohibitively expensive for students, but it feels safe.
