Would Not Recommend

Rent is about an average for the downtown. The management, however, is extremely unreliable and unresponsive when something is wrong with your apartment or when your neighbors are too loud or when you try to recoup your deposits. You can hear your upstairs neighbors quite well. They do not have proper system for dividing up responsibilities that you would have to talk about your problems over and over to different people. Some (especially the lower associates) would be extremely rude to you by cajoling or questing your statements when you discuss what they should have resolved much earlier in time as part of their contractual duties. Also, their apartment has recently gone under construction--will continue for a while. (And yes, I am writing about old apartment).

Expensive but awesome location

Great location for a student without a car but the price keeps going up, up, up.

Getting around Downtown Portland

Downtown Portland Reviews

6 reviews
Everything is nearby! Museums, theater, symphony, restaurants, groceries, campus, transit! No need for a car!
Close to transit (and this complex is next to PSU which is close to a stop for the Pioneer Shuttle)
Essex House is close to a Safeway, right next to Keller Auditorium, a short walk from the river, quiet during the day but even quieter at night since it's in the business district, near the courts/city hall/federal building, and next to the police stations, which I guess makes it a safe area.
Downtown is a great place to live. It's easy to get anywhere in town on public transit and there is lots to do.
University Pointe is across the street, and the line of food trucks is SO close. But you do hear the MAX running at night, but it's a relatively safe location. I haven't had any problems.
Great businesses and access to transit. But don't always feel safe walking around, especially at night.
