Canyon Flats is overpriced, don't get deceived!
Canyon Flats advertises the place as safe, clean, and with many amenities (they call it "luxury" student accommodation). That is totally false! The place is dirty, undergrads students have destroyed the common areas. At some point, elevators could not be used because they were not functional (some students even pissed inside them). Because of that situation, the management had to hire security night-shift (The situation is the same as guards cannot do anything about undergrads' behavior). It took the management 2 months to repair our refrigerator. The gym is unfunctional. The common areas are only cleaned up when the management organizes open days to get more students signing leases. I have lived in other international accommodation complexes in Europe and this is the worst experience I have ever had. I try to spend most of the time in my office to avoid being in that place. But the management told me that if wanted to leave, I had to pay 6 months rent in advance (the fine for leaving before) or to find someone to replace me and paid $500 (another fine). I want to very clear that this place was recommended by UNR Accommodation Office as a solution because I did not have my visa when Ponderosa Accommodation was offered (I paid for the security check and I never received and answer from UNR). I told about my case to this office, but they did not find any solution. I cannot understand how UNR Accommodation Office keeps recommending Canyon Flats for international students.
