Close to Haas/bus stop, ugly carpet, small kitchen
what I love about this apartment are;
(1) location. (A) it’s close by to haas ( 15 minute walk) and 5 minutes walk to bus stop. (b) it’s also close to two small grocery stores and few restaurants.
(2) the price compared to its size as for this price we would smaller apartments in the same neighborhood (North Berkeley/Northside).
(3) it’s layout. (+) large living room and bedroom, large closets (enough to fit a full disk!) and good sized windows especially for my closet office.
(4) management company is responsive and things get solved in 1-2 weeks if not urgent. And can get it faster if it’s an urgent matter.
What I hate about this apartment
(-) LEAD paint. (This is true for any building built before 1970). This building has lead paint which make it unsafe if exposed to it for children and pregnant woman and could affect fertility in men (google search) not sure if we are really exposed to it or not. The walls are sealed but that is a risk that you should be aware off.
(-) The kitchen is pretty small if you cook often enough and use kitchen appliance like air fryer or instant pot. the cabinet space can not accommodate them and you would need a separate shelf to put your appliances close to the outlet.
(-) the building is old but anything we complain about the management company replaced quickly (for example the toilet)
(-) ugly old dark green carpet that need a strong repeated vacuuming + make it harder to decorate..
