Affordable, near-campus housing (at your own risk)
The apartment itself is a studio apartment (1 bed/living room and 1 bath). There is a very small kitchen and a shared laundry room. The kitchen has a gas stove. The laundry room is frequently dirty (the washers themselves produce dirt on my clothes) or taken, but does not cost money to start the machine. There is no central AC/heating but there is a window unit. Pets are not allowed. My bike was stolen from the racks here. I do not have a fire extinguisher or a fire alarm in the kitchen. It is a very old building and the electrical wiring is also old - the only available form of internet is copper (not fiber optics) that is either from Spectrum or AT&T. I had a cockroach problem when I moved in but they sprayed pesticides and the problem resolved. For $677 a month within walking distance of campus, it is hard to complain.

Excellent besides Residential Parking
SMU RLSH recently changed the rules for residential parking at Hillcrest Manor. Now, when my family visits, they have to pay to park behind the building. That is my only real complaint.

Good price for what is included
Great location and for a cheap price but the apartment was built in 1940 so the kitchen is really small, there is no dishwasher, and the gas stover/oven doesn't have a ventilation fan so it makes the apartment smell like gas every time we cook which is really frustrating.
There is a parking lot but it is really small so there isn't always a space and it is poorly lit which makes it feel unsafe to park at night.

Great for price
Old building, but very affordable

Best Commute Ever for a good price
This is a great place mainly for the non-existent commute to school. It's also rather spacious. However, it is definitely old, and some of the appliances are old as well. It takes a long time for management to get back to you about maintenance requests.

Hillcrest Manor
It's nice being right across the street from the law school, and the apartment is spacious, especially given the location. The kitchen is tiny and it doesn't have things like a dishwasher and garbage disposal, but that's the only gripe I have.

Wish I could afford to move, but I am stuck
The walls are thin. I can hear all my neighbors. Apparently there is lead paint. There os no central A/C. The only amenity is free laundry, not in the unit. There is a roach problem and the unit typically smells bad. None of the windows open. The apartment is very small and not well maintained. Most of the doorhandles are falling off. The apartment was dirty when I moved in. I dread coming home and cannot wait to move. The only problem is that my pay is so little that I cannot afford a better apartment.
