Old but charming and in a great location
Building is 120 years old and has the problems you might expect: creaky floors, windows that leak, and lots of TLC needed to fix cracks in the walls and floor.
But it is a 5 min walk from downtown Oak Park, has a covered garage spot for free, street parking in front of the place is somehow also free, and lots of natural light (which is a BIG deal in Chicago). It is very spacious (we have a sunroom, dining room, a mud room, storage space in the basement, and 4 closets), and we have a backyard for our dog to play in.
We feel VERY lucky to have found a place this big with a yard and free parking for less than $1400 a month. I did spend at least an hour on Zillow every day for about 6 weeks, though, and we toured the place and signed the lease
