The basics for a reasonable price

I rent my apartment unit from my landlord who owns it.

Pros:
- Reasonable rent for the area
- Convenient location (close to grocery stores, UTC mall, bus stops, etc.)
- Pet friendly
- Parking garage (with visitor parking)
- Gated entry
- Washer and dryer in unit
- Each unit has a balcony

Cons:
- My first floor unit often has plumbing issues
- My unit doesn't get much sunlight
- Each unit gets 2 assigned parking spots, so any other cars will have to park on the street
- Occasionally they schedule maintenance during work hours, so you'll have to be home to let them in
- Parking garage isn't the most secure (there have been multiple break ins, and management hasn't done anything about it)

Convenient location, minimal amenities

I've lived in this apartment since I first moved to San Diego, about 3.5 years ago. I have my own room and live with 2 other people. This review will focus on my experience with the apartment and management company rather than my specific landlord who has caused a handful of other issues.

Pros:
- Convenient location: close to two bus stops, <15 minute walk from Westfield UTC, Vons, Ralphs, etc.
- Reasonable price for the space (might depend on the unit)
- Underground parking included with rent (2 spots per unit + visitor pass)
- Gate surrounding apartment for security

Cons:
- Limited street parking
- People sometimes leave the gate open; roommate's bike wheel was stolen
- Poor management: There was a period of time when cars were being broken into in the parking garage (including my roommate's) and management refused to put up cameras or anything. Plumbers have complained that management will put off getting work done, causing extensive buildup in the pipes (that caused our sinks to not drain). I've stayed home from work all day waiting for a smoke alarm inspection, etc. but the inspectors never showed up.
- No nearby nightlife
