Lacks maintanence

Its not a good place for the rent. The fittings, cabinetry and bathrooms are outdated and falling apart. The maintenance people rarely come when asked. The owners are also quite mean and are known to not give back your security deposit regardless of how well you maintained the place. Plus due to Nevada's laws, there are no upper limits to how much the rent can be increased so these people have been increasing it at their whim.

It is close to the university and at this distance there are very few options so we have little choice but to deal with this. There are definitely better options out there for the price a bit farther out, but parking at the UNR is impossible to find and so there are disadvantages there too.

Affordable Housing

Only issue is absence of AC for summer but we get window AC and everything becomes excellent again. There is no wait list, it is first come first serve. Recently, due to economy, we got a 12.5 % increase on our previous price which is a high rate.

Cost of housing

Pros:
The best thing about living here is the rent is comparatively super cheap. But the high internet and electricity/gas bill kind of brings it up. The location is good enough because it is in a walk-able distance to the campus. The neighbors are mostly international graduate students. The building manager is helps out when in need.

Drawbacks:
I am not allowed pets (not even an aquarium). Which is a big drawback. Additionally the building is pretty old with old building issues like higher than normal energy bills, broken garbage disposal in the sink, leaky pipes during winters etc.
