Dated Luxury
1180 is a decent apartment building, but very dated compared to some of the new "luxury" buildings propping up across Newark.
Some pros are that the front desk staff is super nice and maintenance is always very responsive to any issues. Moreover, the place has always felt very clean to me. I've never had any issues with roaches or bugs. My one bedroom is a very good size and comfortable to live in. In unit washer/dryer. Gas-stoves. Also, the building is directly down the road from the school which makes for a very easy morning commute and extremely safe. I can't emphasize enough that really downtown Newark is overall a safe area regardless of what people's preconceived notions about the area may be. Also pretty quick walk to Penn or directly next to the light rail which will also get you to penn.
Some cons, rent feels kind of high for what it is. The amenities include things you may or may not use like a bowling alley and a half basketball court. The gym is very usable, but nothing to write home about. Some of the appliances in my apartment seem pretty worn after living here for three years. Because its a tall building, a lot of people do not like ot leave their apartment to smoke. This has caused issues in the past with my residence smelling bad because of other people smoking and on some occassions the entire buildings fire alarm going off. I've had some extremely noisy neighbors before and when they were blasting their music it really was miserable. More recently, all my new neighbors have been very courteous and quiet and it hasn't been an issue in over two years.
The in between: There are some okay food options nearby, but could really be better.

An amazing place to live
We moved in in 2015, and haven’t left. It’s close to the PATH, good restaurants, and a park. The door staff are great, the management team is responsive, and it’s a great place to live!
