Get What You Pay For

Its a basic apartment. Mine is carpeted (ugly), and most are hard wood floors. No garbage disposal or dishwasher but its ok. New fridge. Lots of closet space. Nice bathroom. Air conditioning in unit. It's close to the lake and less expensive than other apartments I viewed in the area

Great place to live

Building is well kept, affordable, and in an excellent location. Lots of closets and storage space. Lots of restaurants and shops within walking distance, as well as easy access to the lake. Train stop is kind of a far walk but buses are close. Overall very pleased.

421 W Barry is a gem

Great price, decent apartment. Other apartments in the area cost way more, so this definitely is a steal! No cameras or doorman, so other resident's packages have gotten stolen before -I just mail mine to work now. Sometimes can take a while for building maintenance to fix something or update, but overall experience has been good!

Basic apartment in a fantastic location

I like my apartment soley based on the location. The kitchen is outdated, and it has really ugly carpet, Totally has a lot more potential. I think a lot of units have hardwood floors. Its very basic and could use a lot of upgrades. The building offers nothing as well. Basic living.

Lakeview Reviews

I'm technically at the intersection of Lakeview, Buena Park, and Wrigleyville so I feel like I get a mix of all three neighborhoods in my day to day. Buena Park is much more family oriented and a bit more affordable, but it is small so finding an apartment there is tricky. Lakeview is very good for young professionals and pets but is definitely pricier. Wrigleyville is even more expensive, but has good nightlife and restaurants. All three are super easy to access transit from and get to the Chicago campus.
I love how convenient the location is. There's a ton of great restaurants really close by, so many bus lines right around the corner or within a 5 minute walk, and Lincoln Park right across the street. My commute downtown is only 15 minutes and there's also a bus available to get to the brown and purple L trains. There's a Mariano's, Trader Joe's, and Target all within 10 minute walking distance so shopping is very convenient. I generally feel really safe walking in this area as the streets are busy and well lit.
Similar crowd (young professionals), close to the lake, parks nearby, safe, accessible grocery stores and shops and restaurants.
Quiet, very residential, mostly families because of the great CPS schools nearby
Lakeview is a great spot for young professionals and those looking for an active social life. The area comes alive in the summer with baseball games and is not far from beaches and great shopping and eating areas.
Lakeview has plenty of beautiful, tree-lined neighborhoods and a robust bar and restaurant scene. It is a destination neighborhood with tons of boutiques, Wrigley Field, and a welcoming environment. I chose to live here because I am gay and wanted to have very easy, direct access to the lakefront path for running and biking.
The main reason we moved here was the neighborhood. Broadway, Clark, Diversey and Belmont are all within walking distance and offer all of the shops, restaurants, bars and grocery stores you could need. It really is in a prime, unbeatable location. Not to mention it's a block from Lake Michigan and walking distance to Lincoln Park and a short bike ride from Montrose Beach.
My street and neighborhood are usually fairly quiet. Sundays seem to be the going out day in the neighborhood but it isn't disruptive to my every day life. Overall it seems like a very safe area and being a young woman living alone, that is very important. Would definitely recommend to friends and family.
