review on New Cal
Amazing location and nice-looking apartment with rooftop deck but incredibly expensive. Management is not quick to address maintenance requests (took them a full year to replace a broken ceiling fan, and only did it once I stated that I would replace it myself and take product and installation costs out of the rent if they did not do it within a week AND did not address non-functional courtyard and rooftop lights for 6 months, despite repeated requests---this resulted in incredibly low-lit, non-usable amenities) or considerate regarding COVID-19 pandemic. Management once charged my account for normal rent amount despite stating they would be discounting rent for tenants in September 2020, resulting in overdraft fees that they only apologized for but did not bother compensating. Renter's insurance is 200 per year, which is also very expensive. If you want to live in this area (near Trader Joe's), consider rent controlled apartments on Bonita Ave, which is just a block or two away - you'll get decent housing for a fraction of the price. I know this is a pretty negative review but I think that for 2865 per month (!), tenants should be getting much better service.
