Unit 604 Brightside Estates

This complex has privately owned units for lease. Each unit gets specific parking spots. My floorplan was super spacious with huge walk in closets, a lofted area upstairs, and decent amount of windows for natural light. The gate is secure and the complex feels pretty safe. Lighting in the parking lots could be better though. My unit was located right next to the train tracks which was loud and shook the apartment, but it was something that I've gotten used to. The pool is pretty sub par.

Nice Townhouse Complex

I was able to bring my German Shepherd and my cat to my apartment. I felt safe walking my dog around the complex each day. Walking distance to Chinese Kitchen and a convenience store. Easy drive to and from campus, about 10 mins. Easy parking. Mostly quiet neighbors. Friendly management and security. There are two main downsides. (1) The windows (at least in my specific apartment) are thin and do not block the traffic noise at night. And there's a good bit of noise. (2) Receiving mail or packages is a possibility, not a promise. Overall I feel comfortable and safe here. Plus, it's rare to find places where my dog is allowed, especially for this price. I would recommend it.

Could Be Better

This was a townhouse that was rented out by the owner, who lived next door. The townhouse is a duplex so it does have one shared wall. The yard is huge, but not yet fenced. The interior was recently redone in some aspects but you can tell it is an older unit. Bedrooms very spacious and NO CARPET! Vinyl wood-looking flooring throughout. High ceilings too. Comes with appliances including washer & dryer. The parking was for 2 cars and its a little ways to walk from the front door to the covered parking so if it was rainy you'd get wet. Also a little sketchy at night but thankfully this unit is at the end of the dead end. The area is hit or miss - it is definitely a student and low-income area. The units around are all VERY different in style and price and the people that live nearby reflect that. The road leading up to the unit is very rough so you have to drive slow. It is also super dark at night. Renting directly from the owner has some perks. They let me have pets and pretty much left me alone unless I needed maintenance on something. However, there are no apartment style amenities and sometimes getting work done was a little slower and informal. Next door are the some townhouses off of Brightside and we shared a fence - those were mostly undergraduate students that would host outdoor parties from time to time and they were noisy. Overall, for the price it was a great find. I lived there for 2.5 years with no serious issues, flooding and hurricanes and all! About a 12 minute drive to the law center with traffic.
