Overall Great

I love the location and living in sawtelle. It’s a lot of space and everything works well, although it is expensive.

Not bad. Get's the job done

Don't expect any red carpet. The building has a lot of rules he expects you'll comply with or be charged and it may take an extra day or 2 for any maintenance requests to be fulfilled. But the apartments are nice enough, everyone has their own bathroom. 2 instead of 3 parking spots are tough but workable. We would live here again if we had to re-do grad school. The worst issue is the parking garage. Bikes are often damaged and missing and I have had a few neighbors who accidentally left their car unlocked lose items. So keep that in mind.

Fine for student housing

The apartment is fine - not super top of the line appliances or fixtures, and some things about how it was designed doesn't make sense (no towel rack, lights behind doors, etc.). Floors seem to get dirty quicker than in other apartments I've lived in. Management is sometimes responsive, sometimes not. The mail area is not secure AT ALL which is very frustrating. But, overall, it's a really good size apartment and in a good location if you're a student at UCLA.

Colby Missouri

Building is nice, but fixtures are flimsy and there have been multiple thefts from the garage this year.

Quality apartments

The apartments are nice and come with central A/C and washers and dryers included. The 3 bedroom is spacious and comes with two parking spots. Great location close to campus and walking distance to the restaurants on Sawtelle road.

1836 Colby

The apartment was brand new, and we were the first to live in it. The apartment itself was fine for the money, but the finishes/build quality were clearly very cheap and did not wear well over the year. The worst part was the elevator, which was broken nearly every week and was painfully slow. Overall, a fine place to live given proximity to UCLA. Not the greatest location for much else. Management is very slow to respond to anything and there are no amenities in the building.

Pretty Great Place to Live

The apartment feels very new and clean. All appliances are up to date and have no issues. Quite a few UCLA affiliates live here so it feels like a community and Sawtelle Blvd is within walking distance with all of its coffee shops and restaurants. The only two watch outs are if you do have any issue the response by management can be pretty slow. Also, always lock your car door in the garage. There have been stories of things going missing down there somehow.

1836 Colby Review

This is a great neighborhood to live in especially if you want to be close to school and close to the main Anderson social scene.

Pros:
-It was built in 2017 so everything is brand new
-Maintenance is quick and the building manager is easily accessible via text
-quick ~8-10 min walk from the buses that bring you to UCLA
-It is on a quiet residential street but still close to school, all the popular Anderson bar favorites, and a bunch of people live in the area, which makes it easy to socialize
-allows pets (with a extra fee)
-quick 10 min walk to Sawtelle aka Japantown which means access to some of the best Ramen and Asian food in LA
-cleaning service for common areas (hallways, elevators, outside, etc) that comes several times a week
-washer dryer, central air/ heat, dishwasher included

Cons:
-VERY VERY VERY thin walls.... you will be able to hear sound/ TV/ conversations from the living/ dining area from your bedroom even with your bedroom door closed however I rarely hear noise coming from other units.
-if you have the room that faces the main hallway then you'll be able to hear loud neighbors walking by (mostly if you're unit is located in a high traffic area i.e. near elevators or trash chutes).
-only 2 parking spaces per unit (street parking can be a little hard to find on street sweeping days if you come home after 5/6pm... however there is always parking around the corner in front of the residential houses but you have to move your car by 8am if you park there)
-very young building so some tenants act like they have they have no home training. For instance, you will see a solo cup or two around the main entrance after a weekend but the cleaning service will keep everything in order
-no parties allowed although we've hosted a few pre-games without major issues and made sure to have guests leave for the next destination before quiet hours at 10pm.
-no utilities included

We chose this Wiseman unit over the others in the area. Some of the others offer a 3rd parking space (for a fee ~$100-150/ month). Definitely look at other Wiseman buildings. They are all similarly priced and some have amenities like rooftops, in-unit fireplaces, and gyms. Note that Wiseman as a whole is a NO PARTY building and some of the other wiseman building managers are more strict regarding that than this one (as in, the manager will fine you & threaten eviction if you get caught). Thankfully this building manager hasn't been that extreme but if you're trying to have a party house then this management company isn't for you! At the end of the day, I love this apartment. I wish the walls were not as thin but I probably won't move unless I really really have to or unless the rent gets out of control.
