Great place to live as a family
The Retreat has been a wonderful place for my family to live while in medical school. We found that there are relatively few options for an apartment in Roanoke that isn't 50+ years old. The Retreat is newly-built, and while the build quality isn't the highest (cracks in the ceiling near wall/ceiling junctions, paint quality is awful), the maintenance people are friendly and quick to help in pretty much any situation. The location is fabulous (in a very quiet part of the city) and the grounds are well-kept as well, which has made it a sunny/friendly place to walk around, given the pandemic. The clubhouse/pool/pavilion area is also top-notch! The only two glaring omissions are the lack of a kids playground (though there is a dog park) as well as more than one dump site for trash (the entire complex shares one dumpster, which is inconvenient as we don't live within walking distance to a dumpster + gets very frequently overcrowded). These, however, are minor issues when compared to the overall quality of the apartment. We've loved being here for the past 3 years!
