About Montrose
Originally imagined as a strictly residential neighborhood, Montrose has morphed into Houston's most eccentric spot with neon-lit tattoo parlors, 24-hour drive-thrus, and covered bungalows. You can get out and enjoy the quirkiness of this neighborhood at popular spots like The Hay Merchant, Stone's ...

Montrose is a great neighborhood for students. It's filled with an eclectic bars and restaurants, is very walkable, and very close to both Rice and Downtown.
Perfect mix of residential and stuff to do. Great restaurants. Walkable.
Fun, young area with lots of local restaurants and bars
If you are a student at U of H , then the commute is about 15 minutes even in moderate traffic. Public transport isn't great, but that's Houston in general. The area is great for a night out with coffee shops, bars, and restaurants nearby. Specifically, the Pit Room and Patio bar are right next tot he complex and great for a quick night out. For a more tame time, the Menil park and art gallery is a 7 minute walk away. If you need to study, the Montrose Branch of the Houston Public Library system is about 7 minutes away. For shopping, a CVS pharmacy is a 5 minute walk and a great HEB grocery store is about a 5 minute drive away. The area is also very safe. One regularly sees police patrols from the nearby University of St. Thomas and Houston Police station. Overall, a great location for a U of H student.
Montrose is a very young and vibrant neighborhood. There are lots of bars and restaurants. It can get a little crowded on weekend nights. It is very centrally located for the city.
Tons of great food. Close to Buffalo Bayou and other great parks. I live within 1 mile of an HEB and Sprouts. Everything is relatively close. Very safe neighborhood.
One of the safest areas in town, but that doesn't mean that it does not have its share of problems.
Inside the loop. Everything you need is 5-10 minute drive.
