Alta Design District
Alta is a good first apartment for my husband and I. He works out of DFW airport, so we chose it for the convenient distance between DFW and SMU. (I work here as well as attending school) It takes me about 20-25 minutes to get to and from work, and there are plenty of back roads if you don't want to drive on the highways.
LOCATION: Living in the "Design District" is good and bad. We like: that it's super close to the south entrance of the Katy Trail; restaurants in the Victory Park area; downtown in general; American Airlines Center because we like going to hockey games. We don't like: that there's nothing to do RIGHT near the property, and you have to cross under the highway to get to all the things mentioned above. Also when there's an event at AA Center, traffic is complicated.
APARTMENT ITSELF: We like: the nice hardwood floors, plenty of cabinet space in the kitchen, extra high ceilings, big living room window, and the fact that it feels new. We don't like: the construction that's been going on ever since we moved in (March 2018) and will likely continue for a while. Very disruptive. Weird layouts in some units with gaps between the wall and ceiling. Building not pretty from the outside or in the hallways; no great views.
*Side note: I had hoped to find an apartment with some 'character.' This is not that. It's a nice apartment with room to spread out, but pretty cookie-cutter, like most Dallas properties.
