Affordable, Good Quality, and Great Location

I love living at Mount Vernon Plaza! It is a great deal for the amount of space, amenities (gym, printing/computers, 24/7 security, package service), and location. The only complaint I have is that the management’s systems are pretty outdated. We pay rent via check, get paper notices, and aren’t able to get timely updates from them.

Great Apartment

This apartment is great in terms of location, value, and space. However, it is an older apartment and can result in higher electricity bills from poor insulation, etc. Being in your early 20s, it's a perfect residence because what it lacks in amenities, it makes up for in rent price and location.

Great Value

The best thing about Mount Vernon is the price. We got 2 full bedrooms and bathrooms in a great location. All of the metro lines are within 10 minutes walk, and there are many grocery stores in the area. You can walk to U St and 14th St for the restaurants and nightlife.

Location, location, location

This apartment is close to everything - all 5 metro lines, can walk to U Street, Dupont Circle, Chinatown, etc. I love living right downtown and this apartment building has none of the amenities of the newer buildings but that keeps the price reasonable for the area.

Long Time Resident - Happy but Concerned

I've lived here for over 2 years, and it is good apartment building overall- great location, low rent, good maintenance team, ok management/ leasing office. However, I had a TERRIBLE time with management to get a new tenant on the lease - inconsistent information, a lot of attitude about additional questions being asked, very uptight about their busy schedule - just an overall rude and rushed customer service team. I actually had one potential roommate back out of applying for the lease because she had so much difficulty with the leasing office! Additionallly, while I have never had any other times I felt unsafe in the building, there was recently an armed robbery inside of the building! Two men followed a resident to their apartment and took cell phones and wallets at gunpoint! What is the point of a overly rule following front desk attendant (who yells at you if you move anything larger than grocery bags without reserving the loading dock) if they can't keep ronbbers out of the building! Hopefully it gets better and I have no plan to move, but my opinion of Mt Vernon Plaza has definitely declined in recent months.

Mount Vernon Plaza

I've lived at this apartment building for over two years. The rent is low and the location is amazing. However, the leasing office is a HUGE pain to deal with and there was recently an armed robbery INSIDE the building. I have no plans of moving, but scary..

Great place to live

I mainly love this place for the location. It's near the edge of a residential area, but so close to tons of options for food, bars, entertainment, shopping, etc. You get a lot for the price, which is nice. There's someone at the door 24/7, so it's pretty safe. Management isn't the best.

MT. Vernon Review

Quiet, has 24/7 security so feels very safe. It's in a great neighborhood and very walkable to just about anything you would need--metro, downtown, shopping, restaurants, night life. We are renting a two bedroom, two bathroom apartment--the two bathroom scenario is hard to find, so it makes up for the small kitchen space. Overall, great space for two people to live in comfortably for a few years. The things I would improve are the amenities--there is only a small gym in the basement with very few pieces of equipment and is usually pretty dirty--and I wish the complex overall had more windows and sunlight.

Good for the value

This is a great first apartment to live in. The amenities are not that great and much of the building is outdated (the gym is tiny and most machines don't work), but for the price, location, and amount of living space, it is everything I could ask for. I live in a two bedroom, two bathroom apartment with a roommate and we love it.

The apartment is a ten minute walk from both Metro Center and McPherson Square, and only a 3-4 minute walk from Mount Vernon Square metro. Restaurants and bars are very close. It's also a quick cab or uber from other fun areas in the city.

Good place for young people

Currently the building's rent has not skyrocketed since the neighborhood is gentrifying and thus a number of coffee shops and restaurants have randomly sprouted and have a foothold in the community. While the amenities are lacking and the building is quite old, the location can't be beat since it's very close to the metro station and is convenient for access to other neighborhoods. The rooms are outdated and the halls tend to smell weird. But the people who work in the building are super friendly and always greet you with a smile. Management is also very easy to work with.

Mount Vernon Square Reviews

I love the location - pretty close to everything you want - shopping, entertainment, restaurants, bars, public transportation, etc. I also like the residential feel of the area, unlike apartment buildings down in Chinatown. Unfortunately, there is some higher rates of car break ins and robberies in the neighborhood, due to a relatively affluent population adjacent to lower income areas. Additionally, there has been a crackdown on prostitution in the area - I saw a few women in the early morning hours, and I am glad the police are focusing on this issue. Other than the normal problems of lack of parking, a very attentive police team writing tickets, I love the area!
As previously mentioned, the neighborhood is great with lots going on, tons of restaurants and the Safeway right next door. Super accessible to everything, especially since we're a 5 minute walk from the Gallery Place metro (red line).
I really love Mount Vernon Square as a neighborhood. It is really close to the national mall, great restaurants, shopping, and you have access to multiple different metro lines.
Lots of restaurants, multiple grocery stores nearby and right near 14th street. Metro is a bit limited outside of the green and yellow line but bus lines are very accessible
Safe area close to Chinatown to the east (union station past that) and then 14th street corridor to the west (dupont past that). You can walk almost anywhere in NW DC.
The area is growing so quickly! New restaurants and buildings are popping up all the time. It's also very easy to get any part of the city from the neighborhood.
I enjoy having tons of restaurants and bars around---from neighborhood pubs, to fast casual restaurants, to sit down joints, to cafes. There's a lots to like.
#1 way to describe living downtown/mt vernon square is convenience. There's a 24 hour Safeway, I can walk nearly everywhere, and always feel safe walking.
