Great Location
Foggy Bottom is expensive, but this was around the cheapest studio I found in the area. Great location for school, good amount of space, but the building is a bit old and not very pretty.

Jefferson House
Decent apartment size and very convenient location directly behind the hospital. Compared to rents in the Foggy Bottom area this building is very affordable. You can find a Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, restaurants, bars, and a gym all within 5 mins of the apartment building, not to mention that the hospital is just across the street. The only downside is that the building itself is quite old. However the apartments can be quite nice depending on if/when the owner renovated it.

Great Apartment
I have lived here for a year and a half now and I am overall very happy with the building. Location wise, it is across the street from GW Hospital/Foggy Bottom metro/Whole Foods, about 5 minutes from Trader Joes, and about a 10 minute walk to the law school. It is also directly next to a 7-11 and has vending machines in the building. The building has a 24-hour front desk service which will accept your packages for you. Fob-entry is required at every entrance. There are several washer and dryers located in the building. Parking spaces can be rented separately for about 180-200 dollars a months. The building offers both indoor and outdoor parking. There is also street parking available starting a block away. The building also has a pool which is open during the summer until labor day, however its hours are somewhat limited depending on the day of the week. All of the employees that work here are very pleasant and helpful.
Each unit is individually owned by a private owner, and as a result some units may be more upgraded than others. My personal unit is one of the more renovated ones, and features an entire wall of windows which provides great sunlight. It also has a fair amount of closet space.
Overall, I would recommend living at Jefferson House. This is my second year living here, and I was happy to resign. There are a few downsides about living here I want to mention. First, the AC/Heat is controlled entirely by the building. At least my apartment has an AC unit which I can set to High/Medium/Low, but I cannot control the actual temperature of the heat or AC. Second, there is no gym in the building (However, it is about a 5 minute walk to the GW Health and Wellness Center). Third, the moving in/out process can be a little pricy. It costs somewhere between 100-300 (depending on the day of the week) to reserve the loading dock and elevator for 4 hours. Even then, there are frequently cars parked backed there in the way. Additionally, you are supposed to reserve the loading dock and elevator for any large packages or furniture you receive in order to bring it up to the apartment, which would again cost you a fee. However, I am not sure how strictly this is enforced. Also, while the building does have a pool, it is an in-ground pool surrounded by buildings, so sitting out there can be unbearably hot most days. Finally, because it is right next door to the hospital, there are frequent sirens. However, I hardly notice them anymore, especially if my windows are closed.
Overall, I would recommend this building for reasonably affordable student housing which is super close to campus!

Not bad
The best aspect of the building is the location.

Good place at good price.
Very responsive management group - a hodgepodge of college/grad students and older people live here. Walls seem generally thick (I can't hear my neighbors). Some mornings involve the loud beeping of trucks backing up behind the apartment; but mostly, the apartment seems to be a very calm place.
The lobby is always staffed, and a fob is required to get into the building. Public areas on the first floor are under surveillance, but I do not see security cameras in the residential rooms or the hallways immediately outside these rooms. The apartment recently (in late 2018) replaced the machines in the communal laundry room.
In the interest of full disclosure, there have been two pest control sweeps in the year that I've been here (which have worked) and there was an abnormal assault. Management responded quickly. The sweep was at no cost to me as the renter, and management notified all tenants of the people suspected of the assault.

THE ROACHES HAVE TAKEN OVER SEND HELP
We thought we had the roaches contained to just the kitchen area. The cold was supposed to make them slow. But as we slept, they spread, circumventing all our traps to envelope the entire area. Eating. Breeding. Multiplying. Everything is roaches now. My pillow is roaches. My computer is roaches. Even I am roaches. Send help and bring fire.

OK place to live
This building is super close to the metro. There is a small pool and laundry on site. It is a condo building, so each unit is different. The management is pretty responsive and very nice, but some issues take a while to be resolved. Recently had bugs.

Great location, terrible management
Jefferson House is at an ideal location -- a five minute walk to Trader Joe's, three minute walk to Whole Foods, a minute walk to the Foggy Bottom metro and a ten minute walk to the law school. There's a front desk that takes your mail, but the manager is abysmal -- super rude, really horrible attitude and service. I haven't used any of their facilities, but I think they have a mediocre pool outdoors. Rent is high, but so is everywhere in Foggy Bottom. Can't beat the location. Besides the terrible management and some really unreasonable rules (you're not technically allowed to bring furniture into the elevator without an appointment, even if the furniture is tiny like a couple of chairs) the front desk is generally pleasant and it's a nice, quiet place to live. By quiet I mean the neighbors are quiet, but the ambulances are loud (we're right across the GW hospital). Overall, if you can manage to avoid the manager and some of the slightly less friendly front desk people, this is a great place to live.

Apt Review
Finding affordable housing in Foggy Bottom is tough, but this is a good alternative! I really enjoy how we have to tap in with a sensor to the apartment complex. It makes me feel safe. Building also has a pool for the residents which is nice in summer!

Great for graduate students!
It's great for grad students, affordable, and definitely a prime location! There are some older folks who live here because it's a co-op, but there are a handful of students. You cannot beat the location but definitely shop around within the building for the best rate.
