Good, more affordable option on U Street

Elysium has fewer amenities than most of the buildings in this immediate area (no real gym, small lounge area, no pool), but that means rent is cheaper here than for a similarly-sized unit in another building. It's recently built, so everything still looks new. It is on a busy street close to bars, though, so the area is loud on weekends. Probably not a good fit for someone who wants a quiet Saturday evening.

Best Location

Can't get a better location - You wont have to walk more than 2 blocks to get ton anything you need (multiple gyms/studios, trader joes, restaurants, bars and shopping all right below you). Easy access to metro and bus lines, a short 20-30 minute trip to campus on the G2.

14th and U is your amenity, building is new - windows generally don't cause any issue with noise on 14th street. Building is newly constructed in 2016 so there are a few ongoing issues with HVAC startup between seasons though that should be past - management is understanding and provided concessions for any days with issues.

Very vibrant part of town, with a lot of young professionals. There is a lot to do in the neighborhood from restaurants, bars, and even workout studios/gyms. There is so much within walking distance, and there are two metro stops also within walking distance. It is very convenient especially if you are a Howard student. You really couldn’t be in a better neighborhood than U Street corridor and the Shaw District.
Love the restaurants on 14th and the availability of bars in my neighborhood, however the U st bars have creepier people than the bars in other parts of the city. Also my phone was stolen at Tropicalia. Don't go there.
There are not many grocery stores nearby, but there is a great Chinese Restaurant down the street. The neighborhood is probably one of the safest places in DC.
Great parks, restaurants, and bars nearby. Also close to several supermarkets, coffee, shops and a metro station
Shaw // U St is a great place to live. Tons of fun bars and restaurants nearby as well as great shopping.
There are a bunch of restaurants and bars in the area, so that is a major plus. The area is also right next to Meridian Hill Park, so you have easy access to a lot of outdoor space. Depending on the exact location of the building, there can be a lot of noise, but the area is overall safe.
Although, noisy, the U street corridor is by far the only place I'd want to live in DC. Yes, the area is in serious need of some parking garages but between the convenience and amazing nightlife this area has it all.
Love Shaw, feels like a neighborhood but with plenty of fun things to do & very close to everything you would need. Access to public transit while not too far from VA or GW.
