Charming Neighborhood, Nightmare Rental Managment
I recently moved to Hyde Park to save money on rent from where I was previously living. Hyde Park is a wonderful little neighborhood with great access to the lake and a variety of small restaurants. Unfortunately, my rental management company (MAC) has been a huge hassle to work with, as they are pretty unorganized and not very accessible or responsive to maintenance issues.
Also, while I love Hyde Park, there are not many local options or much variety when it comes to shopping. I go grocery shopping near my school as the local grocery store is overpriced, and (in my opinion) of poor quality. Lastly, be prepared for fighting for parking in this neighborhood. If you have an off-street parking space, you're golden, otherwise be prepared to spend a few minutes looking for parking on the street.

Hyde Park Reviews
I personally loved living close to campus, for access both to Harper Center and to the broader UChicago campus. I feel much more integrated with the rest of the university as a result of proximity and availability.
In short, there's enough going on in Hyde Park not to feel isolated, but it's far enough away from the city not to feel suffocated.
