Best Kept Secret

I can't overstate how happy I am with my apartment/building. The apartment is spacious and perfect for hosting SGDs. Everyone that comes over comments on how nice it is.

The building is a little dated, but kept up really well. Maintenance staff are incredibly proactive about cleaning and maintenance. Danny responds to maintenance requests almost instantly.

The rent is a fraction of what people are paying in the more popular buildings.

We're right across the street from a park and just a few blocks from Trader Joe's and Jewell.

1500 Chicago

The apartment has a lot of good qualities. It is close to the campus and the purple line, its quiet, its clean, and the maintenance staff is very responsive. I have never had to wait more than 24 hours to get any issue fixed. The one downside is it is a little expensive.

Spacious place to live

I quite enjoy living at 1500 Chicago - my only complaint is the water pressure in the shower can be a little weak.

Spacious rooms with large closets make living here quite enjoyable. A good value for people who are looking to live downtown without spending an arm and a leg. Small gym and large sunroof round out the amenities.

Very responsive management - I've had all my issues taken care of within a day.

Spacious, worth for money but less fancy

The room is more spacious than other apartment in Evanston

The rent is among the cheapest

I love my room. It’s cozy!

However, the building is old and there is less fancy elements than other apartments

Best value for money

Upside - Rent is one of the most competitive, location is great (close to Northwestern, supermarket, lakefront), area/space is big (room, living room), gym is small but very decent, there is staff onsite everyday most of the time who make sure things are in conditions and everything clean

Downside is the building is quite old, the bathroom and kitchen are OK but there is no stove exhaust, for example

Older building - spectacularly maintained

I love living at 1500 Chicago because you get a great amount of space and cleanliness for your money. The apartments are not new (many are carpeted), but are very well maintained. I was pleasantly surprised by how well maintained the bathroom is, and that the kitchen has up to date appliances. In addition, I constantly see the staff of the building repairing, maintaining, cleaning both individual apartments and the building as a whole.

1500 is just a 20 minute walk to campus, similar to other apartment buildings. While it's not near the west of campus where many Kellogg students live, it is very close to Whole Foods and Trader Joes!

Older Building, Good Value

The building is a bit older than E2, the Optimas, and other popular options, but the apartments are larger and it's definitely a better value. Easy walking distance from Target, Whole Foods, Trader Joes, the Hub, the CTA, and other apartment buildings. There's a gym in the building although it's nothing amazing.

Downtown Evanston Reviews

Lots of apartments and family homes in the area. I always see someone riding their bike or walking throughout the day. It's a block from the police station, and only 2-3 blocks to downtown. Close to intercampus shuttle, 201 bus stop (3 blocks), and Dempster purple line (1.5 blocks). Nice area to live, quiet at night.
Downtown Evanston is a great place to live if you're a NU student. It's super easy to get to campus via either walking or the bus, and has convenient groceries within walking distance. The food scene is not the best, but good enough.
Evanston is the epitome of a college town, everything you need and most of what you want is within a 10 minute walk.
I really enjoy living in downtown Evanston. Everything that I need is within walking distance, and it is a 10-15 minute walk to my classes.
Safe, walkable area, even late at night depending on the streets you take. Great for convenience in terms of getting to campus, no car needed, access to many public transit options. You lose out in terms of cheap food options and fun nightlife - there are only a couple of bars open after 9PM on the weekends and for cheap food you're stuck with Chipotle or at best Tomate. But the lake and beach are within walking distance and you live close to other NU students making it well worth it for me.
Evanston really is a nice town. There's loads of food, both chains and otherwise, and a number of shops and things if you don't mind moving around a little. Driving in the greater Evanston area is not a lot of fun, I will say. I get the sense that the city doesn't much like the University and its constituents, and that the students don't always respect the city. It's not a perfect relationship, but it works. I can easily walk or take transit to class on the Evanston campus, and when I have class in Chicago I take transit, which usually takes more than an hour in the morning and close to an hour coming home.
Downtown Evanston is super cute! There are tons of restaurants and a handful of bars so I find that it offers a good bit of variety for the neighborhood size. There are street festivals, a great farmers market, summer concerts in the square and other community events I've enjoyed. Would highly recommend Evanston anyone who wants access to the city but a self-sufficient "urban burb" type neighborhood.
Pros: Great location near key Kellogg hangouts like World of Beer, Nevins, Five and Dime, Prairie Moon, etc. Also convenient to Bennison's Bakery! Great for late nights- can get home in < 5 minutes without ubering. Also near both Metra and L- ideal if you plan to spend some of your time in downtown Chicago.

Cons: Long walk from the Global hub. Closest grocery store is Whole Foods, a bit of a hike to TJ's and Jewel.
