Could be Worse

Vue Apartments is a decent place to live. It's close to Loring park, 15 minute walk to the UST Law School, 5 minute drive, and in a relatively safe area of Minneapolis, probably one of the safest places and areas you can live around Loring Park.
The building is nice and quiet for the most part, good for studying and working from home. There is a small gym with 24 hours access that is sparingly used as well as several common areas outside and inside. A big draw to the place for me was the trees and outdoor areas on the property and the park just down the street. This is not a building that has stunning city views from all directions, but on the rooftop there is a really nice view of downtown.
It's somewhere that is best to live if you have a car or are ok using rideshares for shopping. It is a bit of a trek to the nearest grocery store, about 15 minutes away walking through Loring Park.
Pets are allowed and you will hear dogs barking. If you are lucky, it is very infrequent and won't bother you. Most of the dogs are well behaved.
It is a no-smoking building and if you are lucky your neighbors will abide by the rules. If not, at least the current management works with residents to hopefully get the offenders to stop.
The building has studios, 1 bedrooms, and other flooring plans. The units are nice with modern updates and decent color schemes. There are in-unit washers and dryers.
Parking is $150 a month right now, which is standard for downtown living. The garage is decent, heated, and relatively safe from what I have experienced.
Cost-wise, the building is not the best deal but you can do far worse. The price I pay for my one bedroom is unique and they likely will not offer a 1 bedroom at this price. The average I believe they offer is $1,500 for a 1-bedroom apartment. This includes no utilities. Utilities are billed to the apartment with electricity and gas coming from outside companies that you will need to set up an outside account. Expect to pay about $70 a month for one frugal person for all utilities combined. This is if you get lucky and don't end up in a unit where the price of electricity alone is $100+ a month during the winter, a price which really pushes into a possible argument for claim against the building for violating the states habitability laws regarding fuel efficiency of an apartment building, or at least the units that experience this problem.
If you enjoy sleeping in past 6:00am or aren't a person who can sleep through natural disasters, the studios on the side of the building with the parking garage should be avoided. Garbage trucks come very early in the morning, really testing the city ordinances preventing them from coming too early. They take a solid 10 minutes to loudly gather the trash and recycling providing a wonderful alarm that really makes sure you are awake and ready for the day. They come every day except Tuesdays and Sundays, sometimes coming twice in one morning.
Make sure you read your lease and advocate for yourself if the management company goes against it. There are many free legal resources for renters in MN just a google search away. There have been minor incidents of the management company being in breach of the lease. That being said, what is probably the best thing about management is their ability to work and negotiate with residents. I know other people who lived in different buildings with different management companies who wouldn't budge in their policies or work with residents even when the residents had very real and even legal claims. You likely won't get everything you want from Vue, but they do seem to listen and have been willing to negotiate in the past.
Overall, it is a good place to live. It is hard to find amazing places to rent from in Minneapolis, and Vue certainty isn't amazing, but it isn't the worst. The units are nice, the building is decently maintained, and with enough advocacy management has worked with residents in the past to solve issues.
