Quite and safe apartment, but pricey
I have lived in my apartment for two and a half years. While I thought I'd move out after the first year of law school to find something more affordable, I stayed because I really love my apartment.
I have a spacious studio with a view of the lake. I have lots of storage space, with two huge closets that have lots of shelving. The apartment is so warm in the winter that I never turn on the heat. It's typically very quiet, and my neighbors are friendly. I love the location--I'm steps away from the 171, 6, and 55, and three blocks from the grocery store. A property manager works in the lobby most days, which is helpful for getting packages, maintenance help, and getting locked out.
My biggest complaint is the price, but if someone stayed here with a roommate it would be more affordable. They charge $30/month for one pet (twice that for two), which also isn't great.

Hyde Park Reviews
I personally loved living close to campus, for access both to Harper Center and to the broader UChicago campus. I feel much more integrated with the rest of the university as a result of proximity and availability.
In short, there's enough going on in Hyde Park not to feel isolated, but it's far enough away from the city not to feel suffocated.
