Live in Kerrytown!
I cannot recommend living in Kerrytown (north of campus, near Zingerman’s) enough. It’s the perfect distance from campus where you feel like it’s possible to escape the law school bubble. The building I live in has about two dozen units. My partner and I feel very safe here, love the character of the apartment, and the landlord is super responsive whenever we have questions or maintenance requests. Street parking is an option, but we chose to pay a bit extra for a parking spot behind our building.

Quiet 1-br with responsive landlord
When I moved into my apartment, the landlord Kathy met me out front, introduced herself and was so kind as I found small things to fix throughout the apartment. I love the architecture of the building. It is old, but lovely natural light, lots of space and very quiet. Almost everyone in the building is a grad student! A few blocks from Zingermans

Quaint, small but perfect for one person 1BR acts
The building was built in the 1920s and so has fun architectural quirks in each apartment. Heat is via old fashioned water heaters that they keep plenty hot in the winter (I actually keep my windows cracked open in the winter because it's so toasty. No A/C, only ceiling fans but the building doesn't get too hot I think. Haven't had any problems with pests so far, just your occasional silverfish which happens with any old building. Water pressure for the shower is pretty good and the water always heats up really fast for showers/kitchen sink. Laundry is in the basement and unfortunately, it's three washers and three dryers for the entire building but just do your laundry at off times and it shouldn't be too bad. Management is super responsive and the maintenance guy Jerry is really quick and friendly. The owners do a lot of the renovation and planting of the gardens outside themselves, so you'll see them around too.
This building is mainly 1 BR apts with 2BRs on the four corners I believe. It's pretty quiet. I don't hear too much from apts on either side of me or across the hall; occasionally I'll hear footsteps from apt above me, but it's not too bad. A word about the BR, make sure to measure well if you're gonna try to fit a queen size bed in there. Mine is able to squeeze horizontally across the rectangle-shaped space and that's just enough space to fit the queen sized bed + a night stand + a chest of drawers inside the BR. Overall, it's been a nice, clean safe place to live and I'll have been here all four yrs by the end of med school :)
