Apartment Review

The apartment is very spacious and aesthetically pleasing. The servicemen are always on call and always ready to help at the front desk. The apartment comes with a fridge and a bed, which is nice. I feel very comfortable at Wilshire.

Overpriced and completely not worth it

I had a pretty bad experience here. While the apartments are cute and located close to fordham and Central Park - they were incredibly expensive and not worth the price. The super and doormen are very rude and the building is managed very poorly. Frequently, my water would get shut off with no warning and then when it would come on several hours later it was brown, dirty water. I’d have to wait another several hours for it to be clear again. This happened at least a handful of times per semester. There was also frequent construction at all hours of the day and night outside and inside the building. Anytime I had an issue with Ana poliance org toilet in the apartment and went to te super he either told me I had to deal with it myself or it took him an entire week to come fix it. And he often did it improperly. Fordham was very hands off and when I reported issues to them they would just tell me they didn’t own the building and this couldn’t do anything about it. Additionally the walls were very thin and I could hear everything my neighbors did and said.

Great building

Great apartment, friendly staff, excellent location, laundry in basement, thick walls and ceilings (no sound from other apartments, but some from hallway at times). If a 1 bedroom, no problem with street noise at night. Main complaint is kitchen facilities are not separated from living room and no extractor fan. Also, movie-in and move-out must comport with somewhat restrictive rules; this is my first NYC apartment, so I don’t know how these rules compare with other buildings.

My experience at Wilshire

When I first moved to New York in 2014 as a first year student I wanted to be close to campus. Living at Wilshire allowed me to live alone (studio), not have to take the subway to get to school, while at the same time not being too close, so that I was able to step away when I wanted. They have a very nice lobby area and the people who work there are friendly. Laundry is easy to access (although the machines were malfunctioning more often than I would have liked). The main reasons I left after my first year had mostly to with 1) they had a bad water bug problem when I was there (or roaches); and 2) the area between Central Park and Time Square got to be a bit touristy for my taste. On the first point, it's a pretty old building, however, I would find large water bugs crawling on my bathtub walls much more often than I was okay with (At least twice a month). That was ultimately the key factor in my desire to move out.

Apartment Review

I think Fordham's Graduate housing offer is good. The staff is helpful with all the paperwork and I had no issues in securing an apartment being an international student.

Fordham Graudate Student Housing

I appreciate that I get to live so close to school and that the building is a doorman building. The apartments are very old and the appliances are also old. Additionally there is no method to adjust the heat in the apartment aside from opening the windows (depending on your floor does nothing). The bah trolls don't have rest ventilation. There is no exhaust/ventilation in the kitchens of the studio apartments. Aside from those things (usually find in NYC) it's a great apartment and very convenient, especially for a first year graduate student. Also the doormen are all lovely!

Basically what you would expect from student housing

I've had problems with maintenance requests going ignored, the change machine in the basement is broken more often than not, the machines are usually left unattended for long periods of time, and some of the doormen can be rather rude. But the location is great and the studio actually felt bigger than it seemed. Great if you're new to the city and looking for somewhere convenient for school.

There were bed bugs in my apartment and there is a hole in the ceiling by the window frame. I had to supply my own AC unit and you can't control the heat temperature. Location is great.

Midtown Reviews

I always feel safe and welcome. The people are very nice and talkative. The sights are truly remarkable and living in Midtown is an extraordinary experience, especially with the bar and restaurant scene, the entertainment scene, and so forth. Even Central Park is a wonderland to explore in itself and can be done freely. What's also a highlight about this location is the accessibility of places and people around you; everything is in walking distance, unless you're looking to venture to another area of New York City. You will never run out of places to explore and people to engage with, as people are always traveling to and from New York City - it is a melting pot of many cultures and ethnicities and one of the most diverse places in the world.
I LOVE living in Chelsea. It's close enough to the office so the commute isn't bad but there is so much good food and nightlife around you so you feel very connected socially.
Center of the Universe, between time square and central park.
For commute to school, the NYU shuttle is extremely convenient with travel time under 15mins.
Great bars and restaurants, and close to Central Park, but a distinct lack of affordable grocery options.
5 minute walk to Trader Joe's. Target in-building. Fairway 3 minute walk away. Several bars and restaurants nearby on Third Ave. 40 minute walk to Washington Square Park area. 10 minute walk to the closest subway (the 6), but there are bus lanes nearby. Incredibly close to two major hospitals (great during the COVID age, but lots of ambulance sirens).
See first thing I wrote. Kips bay/murray hill has a great bar and restaurant scene, very young. You don't really go out Friday/Saturday night here, not enough dancing type bars, but it's awesome for just about every other occasion. Central location for everywhere that you would go in any situation though.
Great food, bars, and people and very close to multiple modes of transport to easily get anywhere in the city. There are several bus stops right at your doorstep and a ferry about a two minute walk over on the Ave C side. Easy access to East River Walk for other activities and sports as well. Very easy to get to major hub at Union Square by foot or transport.
