Columbus Plaza Review

The location is amazing! Lakeshore East Park and the grocery store are nearby. Needless to say, it is in the heart of downtown Chicago so we don't have to go far to explore and have fun on the weekends. This location is also just a 5-minute walk away from the bus stop, to get on the 2 in order to come to school.

Sometimes, there can be noise issues because of the many noises that come with downtown living. Additionally, the commute to and from school takes about 45 minutes.

A solid place to live in the Loop

I love this apartment more than either of the two I had in Hyde Park. The 2 and 6 busses makes transit between my apartment and campus a breeze.

Best localization for Harper and Gleacher access

It's the best apartment for someone that don't want attrition to get to Booth (Harper by metra and Gleacher by foot, both at the same walking distance ~8 mins).
The apartment has a great view of the river (especially for St. Pat's Day).
Lots of space and all the other perks (gym, grill area outside, package concierge, etc) - it does not have a pool

Great Units but hidden costs

The units here are great and for the price I think have much more space than MPP; however, there are a few things to take into consideration which are important to note- there is no cable/internet included like with other housing and heating is also not included and all electric, which gets very expensive in the winter.
Overall very happy with the unit though.

Corner apartment

Although the corner apartments at CP are the best, most luminous, and best views they are really cold! So when considering rent do consider the extra in electricity for heating.
I would still choose CP again, seems best price/quality option to me!

Spacious 1-bd close to Gleacher and Millennium Station

Columbus Plaza has been a great place to live for the past half-year (including startup summer). We love the huge corner 1-bedrooms they have, the relatively roomy kitchen, lots of closet space (and free storage in a storage room on each floor), and beautiful views over the river and across to Gleacher. We have good sound insulation despite being on a low floor, so it's easy to relax or study in the apartment. We are close to MPP and Millennium Station and are connected to the station via the Pedway, so I don't have to go out into the cold until I arrive in Hyde Park each morning. We also love how dog-friendly the building is -- the doormen and maintenance staff all love our dog, and our dog loves them. Overall, this place is great, and I'd recommend it especially high for people who a) want space to host large gatherings, b) are in couples or families or don't want the dorm atmosphere, or c) enjoy a quieter building with good sound insulation.

The Loop Reviews

Very secure and tranquil. Very close to public transportations. Namely millennium station which I use to ride the Metra trains to campus.
Very close to the lake and navy pier
Great park surrounded by all the buildings.
There’s good supermarket that has everything. A couple restaurants and coffee shops are also there.
Amazing place to have a social life! It is super close to Gleacher and to where recruiting events take place. Most Boothies live in this area and that helps creating a nice community. West loop with amazing restaurants is 2 metro stops/5min uber. TNDCs also happen walking distance. Its also where most touristic attractions are so its great for when friends/family visit you.
Safe neighborhood and good because it’s where most Booth students live but it’s a little sterile esp at night. Lots of tourists around. I would not live in this neighborhood if most other students didnt live here. However it is convenient to get to most places around chicago. In the middle of everything
Columbus plaza is on the quieter side, a few blocks away from Michigan. Tides and park millennium are even quieter but lack the river views that CP offers. It can be a bit too empty at night, which may be of concern to some. Most of the nearby restaurants in the pedway focus on serving office workers so they close around 6pm. Great access to river walk for running or biking.
The Loop has pros and cons. Living in the Loop is nice because during the day up until about 8 p.m. there are people walking around the streets which is nice because you feel more secure walking. However, on weekends and after a certain time at night it empties and it can be a little eerie.

That being said, if you're anywhere near State St. or the Mag mile, there's pretty much people around at any given hour. It's fun to live downtown because the streets are bustling with interesting people, sometimes there's live music on street corners and there are a lot of restaurants and shops.
Beautiful area in a great location with a dog park, playground, and full service grocery store in short walking distance. Restaurants and transit are just ok in this area, but not a bad walk to the "L" and that opens up the restaurant options. No close-by childcare for kids under preschool age, but great preschool and private elementary school, with high price tags. Ubers often find this place impossible to locate due to GPS's going crazy with the multiple layers of Wacker, Randolph, Columbus, and East South Water Street.
The Loop is an unlikely place to live but I love it. You are in the heart of the city, close to every L line possible, very good restaurants and walking distance to River North without paying River North prices for apartments. Apartments are smaller throughout the neighborhood but if you are an urbanite and don't mind limited closet space you will love it here. Mostly everyone is walking distance to work.
Great location close to blue, brown, green, pink, orange and red lines. 10 minute walk to State St., 5-10 minutes to River North, 15 minutes to Michigan Avenue. Grocery stores aren't really walkable but most people in the building use PeaPod/Instacart. Safe to walk around at night. A lot of new restaurants (quick service) opening in the area.
