Santa Monica at Federal

So far, our experience living here has been pretty great. The management is fairly slow to respond/fix issues and some packages get stolen, but the place itself feels safe and is in condition.

The apartment is incredibly spacious with an open concept living and dining space. The kitchen is large with extensive cabinets and relatively new appliances. Each room is fairly size with its own bathroom and only one bedroom does not have an attached bathroom. The apartment comes with two parking spaces but the neighborhood does not require overnight parking permits, making parking easy and accessible.

The gym is on the smaller side but good for the price and on the building's rooftop providing a nice view of DTLA as well as the Hollywood sign.

First year review of Santa Monica at Federal

I really enjoy the apartment and location. It’s close to great restaurants and easy access to other parts of LA. The downsides, cell service black hole, packages are not secure and only 2 parking spots for three residents.

Solid Spot

Apartment amenities are pretty competitive. Up-to-date kitchen appliances and washer/dryer in-unit. Each bedroom has own bathroom. Nice big common area. Biggest complaint is lack of storage space in unit. Management is hit or miss, in general they tend towards non-responsive and frustrating to work with, but sometimes work orders are repaired within 1-2 business days which is quick.

Good property, between Sawtelle and Brentwood

Pretty modern and big. Lots of sunlight in 2 of the 3 bedrooms and the shared spaces. During our stay they upgraded to nest thermostats which was good. The AC filters could use some cleaning since we have allergies issues from time to time. Great access to public transit and coffee shops/grocery stores/restaurants. Very close to other Anderson students (including The Boulevard, where many events happen).

Review on The Rose

Great value. Cheap rent. Fairly close distance from Santa Monica, Sawtelle, Westwood, and Brentwood. However, sufficient yet limited restaurants within walking parameter. Loudness because of closeness to school + thin walls. Building is aged and has limited amenities. Washer and dryer in unit is a plus.

I really enjoy living where I do. In Sawtelle, the apartments are much larger and more updated for the same price as apartments in Westwood.

While there are definitely cheaper options if you are willing to look, Barry Hill's three room units are clean, comfortable, fairly spacious and ultimately a great place to live. While I wish there was slightly more general storage space for suitcases or large items, there is a ton of kitchen cabinet space which can be re-purposed if needed.
Location is fantastic for food options, as there are several very close by on Santa Monica Boulevard. Drive to UCLA is easy, doesn't take more than 15 minutes most days using Sepulveda (pro tip, learn how to use Bonsal avenue to get to Sepulveda for a more consistent drive time).

Great, standard property

I haven't had any issues at all with the apartment in general, with the sole exception that there is no one collecting packages and some delivery people won't go door-to-door so some packages have gotten stolen/gone missing.

Convenient location, kind of loud

Conveniently located, but loud as my windows face Santa Monica Ave. It's great for students, but I plan to move after graduation.

Apartment is huge, appliances are relatively new, management is very responsive. Great for hosting people. Great location - 10 to 15 minutes to get to campus, walking distance to all of the great food in sawtelle. Easy to get to venice and santa monica bars.

Lots of space with good price, but bad light and messy neighbors

7 management rating Reviewed by on

We really like that it's a big apartment, spacious kitchen, 2 parking spots. We have a larger master bedroom that one roommate pays extra for.

What we don't like ...
No secure bike storage
Messy neighbours (likely other UCLA students) who leave trash in common areas.
Being on the ground level and north facing leaves us with almost no sunlight.

Good apartment with updated fixtures and lots of light. Great location and easy to get. Management is helpful and fixes issues and updates the grounds often and quickly. Downsides are bugs sometimes and really loud undergraduate student parties on the weekends. Street parking is also awful, and the construction next door isn't helping. Lastly, while the building itself is secure and I've never felt unsafe as a young woman, packages are often stolen here, and it is 200 dollars to see the security tape.
